We've been duped. Duplicate polls?

I am convinced that religion has been the devisive instrument throughout history. The instrument of control and power.... but if there wasn't religion we would probably have something else to fight over.

I voted better off. But as wally said something would replace it but maybe not something that stirs the passions as much as religion.

Where is the option for good and bad?

It is about how it is used or not used.

It is not about religion the good and bad comes from the hearts of men.

Plus how can you not have religion?

It isn't some abstract concept some thought up once a long time ago.

It is a product of man's spiritual nature and a desire to explain things.

Sorry...the title of the thread isn't so good. I think the actual question was more along with what I getting at.

I think it's possible not to have religion, but that's my opinion.

I'm not religious, but I'm absolutly shocked that a board full of mostly smart people think we'd be better off without ever having "discovered" religion.

Our entire civilization is rooted in religion.

Considering the never ending death, wars and power struggles based on religious beliefs all over the world, I'm surprised anyone would feel we're better off with the existence of religion as a whole.

Well when you have pre-history man having the fire god move the sun accross the sky or whatever I don't see how you could just "not have religion". It is not like someone invented this concept to enslave pople. I think the idea is ingrained in us because we have a spiritual nature.

Someday I too hope that people will act right just because it is right, not from the threat of punishment in the ever-after. Until then whatever works I guess.

Even though I consider myself agnostic, I have to no with the option of I have not idea because I is really a thought I can not imagine because that is like saying that if there were never any forms of government, to me religion has kept many people in check over time and without it you can go both ways on how things would have turned out.
