Kind of a played topic I guess, but it was a topic of discussion over the weekend with some family members, and I was not able to do much net browsing this weekend... So I polled what was the only topic I had... They'll get better, I hope...

Define crisis and then I'll respond to the poll.

No question the financial state of SS is at minimum in serious trouble, depending upon definition perhaps crisis! If not addressed and modified SS will not be able to meet it's committments. Fact is, the longer we (i.e. - U.S. citizenry in general, U.S. Congress in particular) argue about the extent of the problem and delay in pursuing a remedy the more significant the problem becomes.

It either needs to go away or the age limit needs to be raised since people are living longer.

It was set up to help those who lived longer than the life expectancy rates of the time.

It was never intended to be something you cashed in on as retirement income.

Not quite a "crisis" yet but it is clear that the program is in trouble.

It is flawed to begin with. I am not sure how long it will last.

Our generation wont get it. That is a fact.

A communist ideal in a democracy is bound to fail. Especially when soley dependant upon reasonable economic intelligence. Something neither the left nor the right has.

I don't think any of it is "dumb"... That is another one of those words I find to be overly harsh and probably should not be used too frequently... hopeful would probably be the correct term... I doubt I will be able to draw on it myself, and I am no spring chicken, but I certainly am hopeful that there will be something in there, at least as much as I have put in...

I wish they would just give me what I put in and let me invest it myself... (there goes that hopeful in place of dumb again - because that wish is "hopeful" to say the least)

That's exactly what I want. It'll never happen but one could be "optomistically foolish" (hows that!? lol!).
