Banning flag burning is a terrible idea. The only time I would burn an American flag would be if they passed a law saying I can't burn an American flag. IMO being able to burn the American flag as a form of protest is the ultimate sign of freedom.

People should be allowed to burn a flag, and other people should be allowed to beat the **** out of them for doing it.

Yes, it should be banned. If not the burning of the flag itself, how about setting fire to a substance in public without a permit, disorderly conduct, as well as most of the violent things that usually happen with flag burning.

I feel that flag burning is a violent way to protest. You should be allowed to assemble, but you should not be allowed to do whatever you want, when you do assemble.

I think flag burning should be considered treason--

From wikipedia:

In law, treason is the crime of disloyalty to one's nation or state.

I'm all for our freedoms, but some things should be considered sacred.

So you are willing to amend the FIrst Amendment to stop one or two people a year?

What about other types of descrations (peeing on it, writing messages on it, etc)?

Do you actually believe this or is this a joke?

I didn't say that it needed to be an amendment. It could be a federal offense though.

But that was the question - whether it should be an Amendment.

No joke at all. You wanna burn it and piss on it- go for it, but be prepared for the consequences.

If they pass an admendment on flag burning what's next?

An admendment that you can't critize the US government in public? An admendment that you can't make fun of the President?

I realize that was the question, but I should have articulated it better. I am undecided about an amendment, but firmly decided that it should be some sort of federal crime.

For just flag burning, or any desecration?

What about writing on it? Making clothing out of it?

Jon, do you believe it's appropriate to burn a flag or piss on it?
