This is disgusting, that she should be refused like this.

We need to make it the reverse, a pharmacist needs to be obligated to do their job. If they have moral objections to their job then they shouldn't be in that profession.

Exactly, if they want to get into the prescribing bussiness, maybe they should have become real doctors.

If I was the manager of the store, I would immediately fire that pharmacist for not doing the job they were hired for.

Work is not the place for a person to make religious or political statements, they can do that on their own time.

The point is its a legally perscribed drug and the pharmacist's job is to fill the damn prescription.

the story of that unfortunate young woman is another example of our country moving towards LESS rationality - towards madness.

Are there any pharmacists on this board? In the article it implies that Walgreen’s corporate policy allows the pharmacist the right to refuse to distribute certain drugs.

Does this apply to any drug or just this RU486 drug?

I am against the use of this drug in most cases but I think if you have a job that requires you to distribute it you should. If you can not morally do that then it is time to get a new job.

This whole story seems trumped to support an agenda.

Here we have got a woman that "did not report the assault because she felt traumatized and guilty she had put herself in a situation that left her vulnerable." Yet she is willing to have her ordeal plastered in the media!

Also Walgreens' rep states that all but one of their 50 Tucson area stores had the drug on stock, yet the victim's "friend" reports having called 50 area pharmacies to find only two that had the drug stocked. I have to believe that anyone randomly calling 50 pharmacies in the Tucson area would have called a few Walgreens' in the mix.

Then there is the discrepancy regarding the pharmacist's version of events (offering to locate a alternate pharmacy to dispense) vs. the friends version of that discourse.

It appears as though what occurred was that they found a pharmacist that wouldn't dispense the drug and want to make an uproar about it.

If there is any truth to the story, then I do have empathy for the woman that was raped.

But I believe obtaining the drugs is not the issue here, finding and making an example of a pharmacist who would not fill the presciption is their issue!

Don't you think she is a little pissed of and has the right to be.

In her situation I might let off steam as well. Either way it doesn't change the situation that denying her the drugs was wrong !
