Is capitalism good or evil?
capitalism
Economic system characterized by the following: private property ownership exists; individuals and companies are allowed to compete for their own economic gain; and free market forces determine the prices of goods and services. Such a system is based on the premise of separating the state and business activities. Capitalists believe that markets are efficient and should thus function without interference, and the role of the state is to regulate and protect.
The term capitalism seems to hold a different connotation to different people.
The term itself was coined by it's biggest detractor, Karl Marx.
He seemed to think it enslaved the poor and only made the rich richer.
To others it is an engine that raises the standard of living for everyone and provides opportunity for even the poorest among us.
But is capitalism inherently good or bad?
I think it is pretty clear these days that some kind of market economy is necessary and has been the engine of our prosperity but how do you view it and why?

Capitalism is the most essential element of a free society.
It allows people to get as far as they want to as long as they work hard.

Capitalism has its positives as well as its negatives. To believe that "anyone" can thrive is nieve IMO. In order for some to win, there has to be others that fail. It takes more than hard work. To assume those who "fail" do not work hard is ignorant just as believing those who "win" put in any sweat. For as many positives as capitalism has there are just as many negatives.
Good poll question, should fill some pages today!

Capitalism, in of itself, is neither good nor evil.
Pure capitalism, which does not exist in the US, is not a system that could equitablely work in human society - capitalism, while the best economic system, needs tempering by regulation.

Capitalism is Not good or evil. It is how people use it that is good or bad.
