I voted 'not perfect.'
The turnout in the initial elections gave me hope that the iraqi's are determined to take control of their future. I believe in a positive way.

Sadly so did I. Though I really believe that about 3 months after we leave it will turn into a brutal civil war.

If we leave - I'm thinking the Kurds will effectively keep control of the north with US help - though Turkey might be disturbed.
The Shia majority will try to hold the rest and Sharia will be imposed.
Women will end up with no rights, the Sunnis will be pissed.
We will end up missing Saddam - at least he kept his borders secure and was a secular dictator who kept the religious nuts in line...

I have confidence the majority of the Iraqi's want democracy.
Not perfect, but stable.

Shame on you. I said the same thing last year and was flogged for that thought.

The MAJORITY are Shia. Do you really think they know what democracy means? You know - protection of minority rights - hell it took us almost 200 years from the Declaration of Independence to get there...

If you count killing people that didn't agree with him, then, yes; Saddam kept his people in line.
