Good question.

It is either a) your most hated enemy who will thrill in seeing you writhing in pain and laugh as he shoots your loved one or b) your second most loved one, who can't stop themselves from killing your most loved one...it will be automatic and they will suffer forever because of it.

Whichever choice there causes you the most longterm pain.

I believe if these people vote, it's for Sarah Palin, not John McCain. So will they vote?
I was reading that too. Unreal. McCain's ego has to be at an all time low. Sarah is a freaking rockstar and he's the guy who wires up the sound system.

If I were voting just on how in charge of their own campaign each candidate was, I could never imagine voting for John McCain.

I am going for Obama and I used to be a Republican. 8 years of watching Bush destroy this country tipped the scales towards Obama. I realize Bush does not = McCain, however someone else not so stuck in the old ways needs a shot at the presidency. Also on another side, neither candidate can be as bad a Bush who will go down as the worst president in history.

I'm in the same boat as you, TC. Never voted for a Dem before (yes, I voted for Bush - twice. Blame me.). I'm more moderate than most GOPers, and could really be a part of either party.

It came down to me several different factors - 1 was seeing McCain grind to the right while Obama went to the center. Palin was another one, she, for some reason or another, scares the crap out of me (even HRC never had that effect on me back during the Clinton years). I almost feel that in order to reclaim the GOP, we have to defeat Palin at all costs.

That IS true. Couple of my friends went to see them when they were in the area, and they told me the same thing. Sarah is THE star, and McCain is a sidekick. Three out of every 4 conservatives I know were going to sit this one out, and the rest of them were gonna hold their nose and vote against Obama. The day she was announced as the pick, just about all of them sent checks to McCain campaign.

I have never seen a VP have such effect. Usually your VP is there to either cover your ass with their experience (Cheney, Biden), or carry a particular state/ area (LBJ, Gore), but I don't know of a VP who was THE star on the ticket.

that may very well be, but she has surely ignited his campaign. I said from the very start she was a great pick for this very reason. It gives the conservatives who did not like McCain a reason to get energized and behind the ticket. It was a wild hair type pick, but is working out very well for him.

Her star is starting to fade. The numbers are back to where they were prior to her joining the ticket and pre conventions. I believe he's lost as many votes as he's gained with this move. I guess we'll see...

Of course she's going to fade, she's the VP. But among the conservative base, she's still the star of the ticket. That was the point of putting her there. The sell still is, and will be, how Mac can sell HIMSELF to the moderates. Now, however, he doesn't have to worry about the base. They are envigorated. It's all on Mac now, IMO. And he's not going to pick up the moderates, IMO.
