The nation was founded as a Republic because it was thought that all men were not created equal. You had to be a property owner to even have a voice.

In modern society, there is simply no reason to not allow every voice count for something.

Now that is hitting the nail on the head. These were slave owners who didn't give any consideration to women either. The great Republic where only a third of the population had any rights. Oh let's not forget the rights of the indigenous population. Ooops, they didn't have any. Guess you had to be an immigrant white male in the Great Republic of the Americas.

And this is why religion is so important in America - God granted "us" this continent - it was "manifest destiny".
Slaves should obey their masters - it says so right in the bible.
The husband is the master of the wife.
blah blah blah...

As if pure democracies are any better at protecting people's rights.

Bash the implementation and places where they fell short of ideals all you like.
These things are not due to or even exclusive to a republican form of government.

I don't think a democracy would have lasted as long or been any better given the sensibilities of the time.

don't worry - you're a legal immigrant - you have the right to post your warped views about what you think America should be like.

I was beaten three times and thrown in a river in the middle of January for taking part in anti- Milosevic demonstrations years ago. Mebbe you should learn something about somebody before posting crap.
