View Poll Results: Do you pick a candidate based on his/her abortion views
While it's only 1 of many issues, I would never vote for a pro life candidate. It's always indicitive of other troubling anti personal liberty stances.
I don't pcik candidates on based on their abortion views.
I do pick candiates based on policies they intented to push. I would never vote for a candidate that planned to work to have Roe v Wade overturned.
If they personaly believe abortion is wrong that is not an issue.
It's very much like GW. In his first election bid for prez, he did everything possible to avoid actually stating his view on abortion. He calculated that he would lose votes if he actaully came out and said that one of his main gaols is the eventual overturn of Roe v Wade.
That is true. Most Americans don't want it overturned...although I am fairly certain it was someone else who did the calculations for him.
However, most Americans are in favor of placing limits on abortion! Most Americans do not favor unlimited abortion on demand as enabled by Roe v. Wade.
Given the apparent polarity of the two opinions, I have to say most Americans are uneducated about the totality of the Roe v. Wade decision and its ramifications.
Oh, my poll response is: somewhat.

The abortion issue does say something about a candidate but not all. Most of the time, I actively avoid knowing what the candidate thinks about the issue; especially the local elections. I could care less what the Mayor of Tempe or a Commissioner of the AZ Corporation Commission thinks about abortion.
If Democrats adopted a more pro-life stance they would have won the last election by a land slide. There are that many people who refuse to vote Democrat for that one reason due to religious beliefs.

Do you really believe that if you had a scenario where the (R) candidate was a Ronald Reagan clone but believed in not touching the current abortion interpretations would lose Republican votes to a (D) candidate of a Ted Kennedy cut that wants to repeal the abortion laws?
That's a very strong one issue situation but I suppose there are some that would vote that way.

No I'm saying that if the Democrats in this election would have not been so pro choice then they would have defeated Bush. I believe that a very large part of the population who would otherwise vote Democrat doesn't because they feel so strongly on the issue of Abortion.

this is something i never understood... if you're not against other people getting them, then why are you not for it?
Because I wouldn't have the hart to do it and think that it is sad, but I don't think my personal view on abortion should be forced on others who feel it is a "solution." or need it for cases of incest, rape, health reasons etc.
Do you believe that there should be some type of qualifier to obtain an abortion or just upon demand?
Not saying anyone couldn't lie to get the procedure if there was a "test".
Also, just out of curiosity, if abortion became a state's right issue and individual states allowed or disallowed abortions, would you believe that some states would try to control the crossing of state lines to get an abortion or would the matter just settle down.
