11/13 POD: Gizmofficiency
Have high-tech Gizmos given you more free time? Made you more efficient? Or do they consume/waste as much or more time than they save? (And what’s the best technogadget - Cell phone, Photo-cell-phone, PDA, Tivo, I-Pod, GPS...)

I have Tivo, but I got rid of my cell phone and have no ipods or blackberry.
Not my style and just another thing I will break or lose.

Thought I'd start the week with a light-hearted poll.
I had just read a big article about how new gadgets are so over-packed with options and settings and so on that people are beginning to rebel and demand fewer options, and that they be much simpler to set-up and operate. They cited Apple and the I-Pod as an example of a firm resisting the temptation to load it up with extra functionality no one really wants, just because it's technologically possible.
Went to my cell phone carrier recently to see about a new phone - mine is about 6 yrs old and wearing out - and decided to just keep it till it dies, because they couldn't show me a simple PHONE. It took them 15 minutes to show me all the things their 'simple' phone could do - if I used all that stuff, I'd have no time to do anything else. (And I don't want to be automatically GPS'ed to the government.)
I am going to get Tivo, just because the VCR is a hassle, and I don't have TIME to mess with it.

I put yes, but it has a qualifier. It's been a boon at work and has really increased my efficiency.
However, I tend to waste my time at home because of them. Tinkering with them when I should be doing yard work, etc.

I used to be able to leave the office and once I left, I was gone. Now they throw a cell phone, pager, laptop, and now the blackberry at me. I literally have no feeling of "getting away" any more. I have to log in from home just to keep up on e-mail because all my counter parts get an idea at 2 am and want some input on it.
