How do I gain mass. I've been training for the fire dept and I would like to gain mass.
I've been working out for over 2 years and have very good definition, more to that of a male model than a body builder. I don't want to be a body builder but I want to gain more mass.
I take a multivitamins, EAS Protein, Flaxeed Oil, CellMass Creatine.
I work out 5-6 days a week.
Day 1- Bi's/Tri's
Day 2- Chest/Back
Day 3- Shoulders/Legs
Day 4- Cardio/Stomach
Then repeat the cycle.
I've actually dropped 6lbs since I've been running 2 miles every other day and doing 15 minutes of serious stair stepping the alternate day.

Maybe a dumb question but why would you need to gain mass to work for the fire department? Seems to me based on what I've seen that the physical requirements for that job would tend to favor one being lean, running up and down stairs, ladders, carrying the hose etc. Doesn't seem to me that being "big" is much of an advantage?
Strength yeah firefighters have to be strong. I was in Baja 2 years ago on a fishing trip and there was a group of I think 6 firefighters from San Jose and only one of them would I describe as having much "mass" the vast majority were in great shape but more lean.
Yeah a majority of them are more lean because of all the cardio, but I dont' want to put on 20+ lbs of muscle mass, more like 10 to 15.
I'm 5'8, 150. I recently dropped 6 lbs.
Gotcha. Do they have height requirements? A friend of mine's husband was rejected by the police over and over because he was about that height, seemed ridiculous he was in great shape and majored in criminology but they were very strict about the requirement.
Good luck, the firefighters I know seem to have a good gig, hard work, obviously dangerous, but they're able to work their schedules so they have lots of fishing time. Seems that around here a lot of firemen flyfish which is how I know them.
Not any advice on how to gain mass, but rather on how to get into a department: volunteer. Join a volunteer department and you'll be miles ahead of applicants that don't have the experience.

No, but I don't think 5'8 would qualify as being too short. Maybe anything below 5'8.

Lift heavier weights to shock your muscles to grow more..
If you are doing 3 sets of 10-12 reps, increase the weight and do 3 sets of -5 or 6 with no more tha 30 seconds rest in between sets.
You will lose a little of your definintion, but will gain bulk. 150 poulds of muscle on a 5-8 frame is not bad, and if you are cut you actually appear to be bigger. It seems to me that you would want a more athletic body to function as a firefighter.
The bulkier you are, the less flexible and moblie you are and you will lose muscle endurance. I think you will be much more effective staying with your current body type.
If you are looking for a mass donor, I would be happy to apply. Any amount up to 50lbs. I gotta believe there's some definition under that weight. PM me if you are interested.
Someone as fitness minded should convert the "potential muscle" in no time!
