"Essay" by my 11 year old for school

Tobacco Use – Not a Healthy Choice

Nicotine is a chemical in tobacco products. It reaches the brain and blood stream in seconds.

Nicotine is addictive, which means it makes the user feel that he or she needs it. Smoking can cause coronary heart disease and increases the chance of stroke by five times!

Smoking can also cause diseases such as bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma. Seventy percent of all lung cancer cases are caused by tobacco.

It can also cause cancer in the mouth and throat. One to one and a half pounds of black tar collects on a smoker’s lungs every year.

Smoking may also cause a smoker’s teeth and finger nails to turn yellow. Smoking cause more deaths than AIDS; alcohol, cocaine, homicide, suicide, car crashes and fire combined.

Smoking killed my grandfather before I got to meet him, don’t let it take you too.

Ya, the first part is pretty mundane, but that last line really hits hard. He really never talks about his grandfather, but it must have had an impact since this popped into his essay out of nowhere.

So those of you who are quitting, keep it up, you may end up being a blessing to future grandkids you haven't even met yet.

Thank you for sharing; I hope others find it motivational. My children never got to meet their paternal grandfather (alcoholism), so I can relate a little bit.

My grandfather died from lung cancer when I was in 2nd grade. Then, just a couple of years ago, my husband's grandfather also died from lung cancer. Not something I'd ever want to see someone go through again.

SWD, I hope you're still smoke-free!!!!! I can't say I know what you're going through, but I CAN say I know what your family will most likely go through if you don't stick with it. Trust me, their pain from your smoking lasts for years.

ok started a new quit on sunday. I have been smoke free 43+ hours.

At the same time I redically changed my diet. I am eating only organic foods and skinless/bonless chicken as my only meat. They say not to do it but instead of craving cigs I am craving TASTE!!! so it helps me make it through, or at least helped when I quit for 2 years awhile back.

I hope to keep the diet too so we will see how it goes. Well its not really a diet, but when you see the difference between organic carrots and other veggies and what they sell now you would realise how unnatural the food they make now is.
