Or is it better to do cardio then go lift weights?
And by "better" I mean which one will benefit me the most?

i always do cardio first, but that's mostly because i do leg presses and such, so i do the cardio first so i don't feel too tired after i'm finished with weights and then skip cardio because of that. i think the cardio warms me up.
I have read in fitness magazines that it's better to lift weights and then do cardio.
Anyone else want to chime in?

If you have to do them together... cardio then weight train
Cardio is better in the morning (keep metabolism going through out the day)
and lifting is better in the evening (during rest your muscles heal mo fasta)
is it "bad" to do them together on the same day?

My experience has been cardio helps me in sports like basketball, tennis, etc. I personally could run almost 7 days a week and still maintain my obese 255 pounds previously. However, when I would weight lift, the pounds would drop off like butter!
I look at it like a yin/yang thing. You need both to achieve balance physically. What good is having great lung capacity if you can't physically do anything because your muscles are so weak? The opposite is true, I have faced Atlas looking guys on the basketball court and run circles around them after 5 minutes of ball playing because they are grabbing their shorts gasping for air.
Every fitness routine should be designed specifically for a person. A magazine saying one is better without the other not knowing you is baloney. Personally, I would work in aerobics, weights, and some type of yoga for stretching and balance, and then you would have a great routine. I would do more for the weakest part you have physically, and taper off with your strongest part being the least amount you work out. For me it would be Yoga since I am not limber at all, then weights, then running. However, I do only running, when I can, right now.
Also, I usually run, then lift, if I do both on a day. It's easier to run then lift. If you lift, then run, sometimes you can't run at all if you weight lifted for your legs hard!

I still have a gut feeling Shaq will be better next season (2008/2009) after our docs have a full off season to work their magic on the Big Saguaro!

I've heard that for cardio to be most effective.....you have to have fasted for a while, that is why the morning is perfect. Also, I've heard that you should be well hydrated before or else you burn muscle along with fat.
I've always done this and it works well..........anyone have any science to support it??
Edit: Sorry, I think I see what you are asking. I think ideally, you might want to alternate days, I just try to kill myself when I go and I have to rest one day in between. That's mostly because I do a full body routine when I lift, so I have to have an off day.

It was a serious question... should they be done on different days? Whenever I go to the gym, I lift weights on a certain area of the body and then do cardio.
This is news to me.

Sorry Kate, I edited the post. A little slow on the uptake today.

Depends... You should rest between running workouts, and between weight workouts. However, with 7 days in a week, you can overlap routines. Whatever works for you isn't wrong!
I bet that helps a lot!
