power clean and jerk

Does anyone else do this exercise?

I used to think it was just for power lifters, but I have changed my mind. It burns a tremendous amount of calories and trains the entire body.

I have added this to my routine and plan to do it about once per week.

I used to do this in high school, I even went to 2 competitions on the advice of my coach. I pretty much came in last place even though after all the disqualifications and no-shows I was 8th overall in my weight class.

I was really good at clean and jerk. My advice is to play around with your grips. You will feel sore in different places depending on where you finish.

Also practice "shrugs" this is where you pick up the bar with weight and hold it and just shrug your shoulders...... feel the burn. The muscles that this exercise works are the ones you will use to first get the bar moving in the upward motion to start your moves

It's also great for your fast twitch muscles for explosiveness.

I am really liking this exercise. This morning I went to do bench and I was able to crank out 2 more reps with the same weight that I used last time. I was experimenting with different grips. The closer the grip, the more my shoulders and tri’s got involved. I think I like the wider grip better, especially once I start to increase the weight.

Man, I did these again this morning. I’ve never been so winded by a set of 10 reps before, not even squats. I had to rest for at least 3 minutes between sets, and after 3 sets I was toast. Right now I’m not using much weight because I want to make sure that I get the form down correctly, and they are still wiping me out. They’re really going to destroy me when I start upping the poundage.

(I tried to include something in this post that could lead to some sort of smart aleck remark, but I couldn't. However, I have faith that the ASFN crew can come up with something)

Power Clean and Jerk?? Are you starting from the bar already hanging at your knees. Try the full clean and jerk.

Also, the Snatch when you are ready will wipe you out. If you are into to training for Power I've got a bunch of ideas.

But a big sandbag or Military duffle bag...load it with 100 pounds of sand....and try to Power clean that......muscles will be sore you didn't even know you had.

I’m not really familiar with the terminology (I’ve always been more into bodybuilding). I start with the bar resting on the floor. I bring it up to my chest with one movement, and then I press it over my head with another.

I've got a punching bag hanging in the garage that weighs 75. I could easily unhook it from its chain.

I find Bodybuilding kind of a Feminine thing, glad it looks like you are getting away from it. To me the point of lifting weights is to be strong, and be able to use your strength in other athletic avenues.

Two resources that may be very valuable to you:
Brawn--Stuart McRobert
Dinosaur Training--Brooks Kubik

also--Super Squats is an awesome book
The Ironmind website has millions of awesome gadgets, a lot for hand strength development.

Congratulations on leaving the Cable Crossovers and Concentration Curls in the past.
