Ideas to brign down heart rate
****Correction this thread is in relation to BLOOD PRESSURE not HEART RATE. SORRY!!!****
I know this is a retarded question but does anyone on here have any ideas as far as how to lower my heart rate?? I realize there are many basic ways to do it but has anyone had anything that worked extremely well for them. I am only 21 and do not wanna have a heart attack anytime soon!!!
I went to get a consultation to get lasik done and they informed me that my left eye was bleeding. It was quite a shock and kind of a scare. So they sent me to a retina specialists who checked it out and said I was ok as far as my eye was concerned but we needed to figure out what caused it so he sent over to an internal specialists and after much testing etc. he decided nothing was wrong with my arteries but i just had a high heart rate. I would like to think i am a decently healthy 21 year old (the retina and the internal specilalists office had fun with me because i was about 50 years younger then every other patient). I dont really work out and eat like a normal person about 50/50 fast food and home cooked but I am interested if anyone has suggestions as to how to help me lower my heart rate. The number that is high is my bottom number i think my heart rate was 120 over 100 so my top number is normal but the bottom was a little high. The doctor recommended i lower my sodium intake and lower my soda consumption (no more Dr. Pepper!!! that sucks). Is there any other suggestions from the gang that might help? All comments are appreciated!

It sounds like you are talking about blood pressure, not heart rate. Yes, over100 diastolic does sound a little high. They told you to do the obvious first, less sodium and caffiene. Exercise and losing weight, if you are a little heavy, will help too.
But, hypertension is elevated blood pressure over a sustained period of time. Some people have "high" blood pressure every time they go to the doctor because they are stresses about being at the doctors office! Check it other times, like at the drug store, too.

Sweet thanks yeah I meant blood pressure my bad. I am 200 but im 6'1" or 6'2" depending on the shoes is that considered overweight???? I have to go get a chest xray and i think its called a cardiogram so hopefully those come back good. I have high anxiety which i take lexapro for but maybe that factors into it also. I hate bodies i wish we didnt have health problems!!!

If it's blood pressure, that's reasonably treatable through diet, exercise and medication.
If it's truly your heart rate (beats per minute), then that's probably a little more vexing. If your heart is really beating that fast without rigorous activity, I have to ask: are you in terrible shape? If so, the answer is get healthy (diet and exercise).
If not, then maybe you need to look into meditation and such.
JMHO...I'm no doctor.

It's Bea Arthur from "Maude" and "The Golden Girls." Her photo is not supposed to get your heart rate going (or your blood pressure, for that matter).
I countered with her television husband, Walter (played by Bill Macy) only because it's the first thing I thought of and I thought the semi non-sequitor might get a chuckle.
But, in describing the joke, it seems to have come up short. Sorry about that.

One thing that helps me with anxiety and which I've noticed brings my blood pressure down are breathing exercises. Try just sitting still and breathe deeply for about 10-15 minutes. I've been able to bring down both my diastolic and systolic rates about 15-20 points after these exercises. Hope this helps.
