Has anyone done a mini triathlon?

I am going to enter a min-triathlon that will be held in October and wondered if anyone has participated in one? It's 825 yards of swimming, 12 miles of biking and 3 miles of running. I'm hoping to get under 1 hour and 45 minutes.

For those who have done one, what area do you concentrate on more? Also, do you enjoy doing the triathlon?

I used to be a strong swimmer but have not really done much the past five years. The biking should be pretty easy but I'm most concerned about the running. I have a bad left knee and will need to build more muscle around it.

I haven't, but probably will eventually. I sink like a rock and never took swimming lessons, so the swimming portion has always kept me from entering.

If I was training to meet a specific time I would train the most in the area in which I have the most potential. For me it would be running. I can really improve my pace with regular training. However, if I wanted to shave a little time off my swimming pace, it would take loads of training.

Good luck, sounds fun.

Definitely build more muscle around your knee. Also work on your various thigh muscles. Everything I have read says you need to have those muscles strong to help protect your knees.

I have never done one of these events, but, like Bada, I could see myself doing one within the next few years.

Good luck with your training! Keep us posted!

I ran a quarter iron man a year or so ago.

Concentrate on running - I recommend CHI RUNNING book to get your form down.

Then for swimming - I recommend TOTAL IMMERSION book. Again, form is key.

You want to make sure you don't spend too much energy during your bike and swim for your run.

I'd train each stage at least once a week until your race.

I could do the biking and running. The swimming would be hard for me. Swimming is very physically demanding.

I'd like to do one of these one day.
