Eczema

Anyone here have eczema? Anyone know of any good treatment options?

I have it. Not fun, especially in the wintertime. My doctor suggested not washing my hands as frequently (not an option in my profession). And my insurance refuses to spend the $300 for Elidel, which has helped in the past. I've tried a variety of different lotions and creams, but they haven't been all that great.

Just wondering if anyone here has had success with something I might not have tried before.

Allergy shot. I get eczema from time to time, but it goes away within 24-48 hours of when I get a shot. It stays gone for months at a time too.

You know, now that you mention it, I got an allergy shot a while ago (which I believe I mentioned in the gluten thread) and my eczema DID seem to improve.

I gotta get to the doctor and stop screwing around with this crap, lol.

How do you feel about Walmart?

Equate brand Hydrocortisone Plus cream. 1% hydrocortisone creanm/Antipruritic (anti-itch) cream. White tube with a big red dot on it. 2oz.

I'm kind of an expert and it works for me.

Not a fan of Walmart, but not a fan of scratching all over my body either. Will have to check that out.

Jersey, years ago I had to take a medication that just played havoc with my skin. Went to my allergist, a dermatologist, you name it. I tried every cream known to man including hydrocortisone lotions the docs prescribed. Even did the photochemotherapy where they give you funny glasses and put you in a light booth. Nothing. Horrible.

I still get break-outs of whatever the heck it was. So when I saw this I thought, "What the H." It stops the itch for me. I try very hard not to run out. Hope it works for you. Let me know.

I will definitely pick some up tomorrow and let you know if a few days.

I did some research online yesterday about people using bleach baths and lemon juice. That's craziness ... at least that is my initial reaction. But it is so bad that I am willing to try anything. I even used some extra virgin olive oil last night. It helped a little, but it's messy and, um, I use that stuff for cooking, lol.

I guess in the grand scheme of things, if eczema and allergies are the worst things I "get" in this life, I'll be one grateful chica.

That still requires a prescription, correct? My insurance (which sucks ass) won't pay for it.

It requires a prescription. It wasn't on my health insurance either. I got it for $100 at Costco.

$100 is still a lot, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Thanks for the tip!

I have been having a really rough go of it this fall and winter. The worst bouts that I have suffered in a really long time. It is very frustrating.

I'm currently using triamcinolone acetonide cream with zero success. I also use hydrozine which really is not working at all but it relaxes me enough on the worst nights to help me get rest.

I just started some samples that a Dr gave me over a year ago called xyzal.

I'm going to go into the dr this week and see if I can get a script for that elidal. If one of my insurances won't cover it I will buy it with cash then recoup with my flex account. If it really works it will be well worth the money spent.

Best of luck to all of you.

That sucks. I just got prescribed this yesterday. Can't tell if it's helping or not since I also got a steroid shot for the allergies. The shot has done GREAT things for my allergies and the eczema.

I would go back to your doc and tell him/her that the cream isn't working. Ask for the shot or elidel. My doc said if the cream isn't helping after two weeks to come back and we'll try something else.

Good luck, NMCard! I know how much this crap incredibly SUCKS!!!

Thanks JerseyGirl!

I got a steroid shot a few weeks ago it helped a bunch. But it has worn off and I'm back to square one again. I do have a appointment next week for a specialist. I hope he has something that will help. I'm taking a bunch of stuff that don't help much to the appointment so he will know what not to give me.

Be firm about the issue. No need to take anything that isn't going to help, especially since a lot of creams thin the skin.

Good luck! Keep me posted!
