Linda, poor PCF is feeling very whiny today. Kick his butt a little more, I think he needs it.

ACTUALLY, I was going to ask y'all for some advice, because I HAVE GOT to lose some weight, but I have fibromyalgia (chronic pain, muscles & joints, if you don't know), so anything too major leaves me incapacitated. I need something fairly low impact, but will give me "the most bang for my buck" so to speak. Any ideas anyone? I like the idea of checking in. It leaves you accountable, and therefore more motivated to not be a slug (what got me in this boat in the first place!)

I don't know anything in particular that you could do that wouldn't be too much for you. I would just suggest trying a little at a time. A little something is better than nothing! The first week that I got back into exercising again, I made my goal to workout once, just once, that week. It didn't seem too overwhelming, and I did it, I got on the treadmill once that week. I didn't push myself too hard, but I got off my ASS! Week 2, my goal was to exercise twice, and I did. Last week was week 3, I worked out 3 times. Then, Mike got this forum going for me, and this is motivating me BIG TIME!!! This week, my goal is to work out 4 times! One down, three to go! So my suggestion, do a little to start with, baby steps sweetie!

Yeah, I'm afraid it's going to have to be that way. I used to be fairly athletic (at least, in real good shape) in my youth, so all of this is foreign to me. Really sucks bad. Ah, well. Complaining won't change anything!

Can't follow my own damn advice.

I thought I had blown out my shoulder last Friday (10 year old injury), popped a bunch of celebrex over the weekend and didn't lift. Yesterday I did back and biceps and it didn't bother me, so tonight I figured (being the smart guy that I am) "what the heck, it's not bothering me right NOW".....

So, I get to the gym, start benching, get to 275 (sorry PCF) and I start feeling this burning in the back of my shoulder. Me being the smart guy that I am, decided "ahhh, pain-schmain" and put 305 on there.

Not good. I brought it down and as I started back up this searing pain went right through my shoulder. I managed to get it back up and me being the smart guy that I am, figured "ahhh, just stop benching for right now" so on to the dumb-bell flyes, skull crushers, full tricep routine, etc.

I got out to the car and I couldn't lift my arm to turn the steering wheel.

Brilliant. I love me sometimes.

So, I may be out of this for awhile. We'll see. I've been down this road too many times in the past. Like I said, it's an old injury.

I know, I know:

Just wanted to vent.

If you're looking for low impact, an elliptical (sp?) is a great workout that hits your entire body and can be set to varying levels of resistance/intensity. I don't know if you're looking for something to do at home or if you can hit a gym, but I'd recommend this if you can.

I looked into an elliptical--way too expensive, but I could save for it...

Nowhere to swim--well, the 6'x10' inflatable pool in my backyard won't get me far!

I think I may start with some wussy-style aerobics to get me started.

btw, HR--you're a smart one....

So for working out at home?

You could try all the other female at home workouts- Yoga-rt, Pilates, Thigh Master, and/or 6 minutes abs.

What type of things can you not do?
