Better Workout For Chest Pushups or Bench Press?
Heard both sides of the story here. They say push ups cause you are using your own body weight and that is what makes you strong (pull ups, push ups) etc
Also have heard that bench is better due to the fact you can put more weight on than your body weight. Any info will be helpful Thanks.

I would suggest Dumbell press because you are using stabilizing muscles and putting up more weight than you can do with pushups. Plus it's better for your shoulders. Baseball players don't bench because it puts strain on their shoulders.

Im using my shoulders 3 times a week at the boxing gym so they are sore almost all the time, thanks for the advice. At my gym the have me do dumbell flys while on the core fitness ball so I really have to stabilze, its hard.
It's hard to do a push-up wrong, IMO. The motion is very constant. Plus, I think it's healthier to be limited by your own body weight--just do more reps/sets at lower weight and your body will thank you for it. That's just my own philosophy, though.

Sorry, and it's just my opinion, but I avoid dumbell presses like the plague (unless it's a low weight) because shoulder injuries are more common with dumbells vs. the bench. Just like you said, you have got to strengthen the stabilizing muscles and until that happens, you are just asking to tear something. Again, just my opinion.

Trying to achive both, I guess then both would be the answer
Yes sir. Not trying to brag (because I know there is always someone bigger, stronger, etc.) but I max my pushups (77) in just under a minute (we have two minutes) and I'm putting up 325 twice and I'm 6' 1" and weigh 190.
Again, I'm not trying to sound arrogant, but I know that exceeds the average man's ability. Am I proud of it? Sure. Can I improve? Always trying to. I know the only way I got there though is a combination of doing both. My cardio sucks azz though, got the lungs of an old woman ever since I wrecked my knee.
You never realize how much you rely on your knees until they don't function anymore.

One of my buddies ONLY does pushups (in prison) and his pecs are huge, but he said he is doing around 200 a day.
Man, what happened to the time? I can just faintly remember when I used to do 200 push-ups a day. I probably couldn't even do 10 now.
We used to have contests in the bars (construction workers, what else would you expect) to see who could do the most sit-ups or chin-ups. One of the contests was to put two chairs facing each other, just far enough apart where your arms would be on one chair and your feet on the other. The idea was to touch your stomach to the floor and go back up. Now that was a tough push-up.
