I just had a cortisone shot in my elbow 1 week ago. The Dr. said that it is supposed to help with the inflamation and pain in my elbow. Yet I havent really noticed a difference.
That was a hell of a lot of pain to go through getting that shot to not notice any type of tangible benefit.
Anyone know if I should be waiting longer for results? He was suggesting another shot in 30 days. I was wondering if that is an option you pursue if you dont notice any benefit from the first one?

I had to go through cortisone injections for my tendinitis in my wrist before they'd do surgery. I noticed no benefit to them at all, aside from the fact it got me one step closer to finally getting the procedure done that I needed.
Wish I had a more optimistic reply for you, but I found them to be a total waste.
I've had several in my foot, ankle & big toe joint (hell!). After I had seven shots in 18 months I went to diff the Phx Sunds ortho for a 2nd opinion. He told me no more than 2 cortisone shots a year! I found out I had been misdiagnosed and ended up having ankle surgery. That was Jan 06. I still have the daily toe pain from arthitis & a bone spur, but my last cortisone shot put me in the hopsital with a reaction. I'd rather go through another natural child birth than have that intense pain again. Paramedics had to come and transport me. No more shots for me, thanks.
BTW, it took 2-3 weeks before I felt much improvement when I had the shots.
Had a cortisone shot in my shoulder 7 years ago. Doc said if I were a "professional athlete", they would have cut me open - but since I'm not, "let's try this shot"... Biggest friggin needle I had ever seen. Hurt like a mother... But since that day, I have been pain free!
About 12 years ago I got a series of three shots in my back. Prior to that I had 7 bulging discs, 3 of them "uncontained". That means really bad. I felt relief after the first and it only got better. Because of the shots I didn't need surgury and I can manage my back with an occasional maximum strength Tylenol.
Shane after I broke my elbow rollerblading the first doc gave me a cortisone shot in the elbow directly into the point of the elbow( I broke the radial head so the shot was right there). Hurt like a mother the doc let his assistant do it she'd never done one before and honestly it wasn't her fault it hurt just the nature of the shot apparently. It helped me swelling went down, got more range of motion etc.
A few months later I reinjured the elbow at work and wound up in workmens comp without my choice of docs. The doc I ended up with gave me another cortisone shot, this time he numbed the spot first so it didn't hurt. After about 2 weeks of PT and bending the hell out of my elbow he gave me a 2nd cortisone shot and released me from workmens comp.
After all that I paid my own way back to the first doc for a followup(they don't do workmens comp). He asked a few questions and when I told him they'd given me 2 cortisone shots he was really ticked off. As someone else said that's the limit for a year, mine was in like 2 weeks. He said it was borderline criminal and he even asked for the doctors name so he could call them up and yell at the doctor.
The only good thing I learned from the 2nd guy was that it doesn't have to hurt they can numb it first as long as they know exactly where to put the needle. The first one they said they had to put the needle in until I jumped, then they knew they had the right spot and they injected the cortisone, which is why it hurt so damn much.
it definitely helped but yeah if you've already had 1 shot and got no relief I'm skeptical a 2nd one will help.
