Acid Reflux, et al

This has been discussed somewhat in various threads, but I'd thought I'd pass this on for those who may not be aware. Being "diagnosed" recently with acid reflux, I dutifully took what the doctor ordered, but I am a firm believer in curing the problem, not hiding it. I did a little research and surprisingly, I found a lot of references to Apple Cider Vinegar as a cure. In my case, I was actually suffering from a lack of acid and more than likely due to my recent foray into a low-carb diet where for several months I eliminated all fruits and fruit juices and that was where I was getting most of my acid. I bought some Bragg brand ACV and take a tablespoon orally every day. I no longer need the prescription medicine. It is also available in tablet form.

My wife suffers from occasional heartburn and drinking the ACV stops heartburn immediately.

In addition, for insomnia or general restless sleep, I started taking melatonin tablets and have found I am getting much better sleep lately. Seems those over the age of 40 suffer from melatonin deficit and this is a good way to bring you back to proper levels.

Interesting I've got acid reflux really bad, taking prevacid didn't help but I'm now on a OTC zantac 150 twice a day and it seems to help. When I was in Mexico something in the diet(not spicy foods we didn't have that much) was really getting to me. 2 mornings out of the 6 we fished, while waiting on the beach for the boat to arrive, I had to run to my room to toss my cookies due to acid reflux.

My sister had mentioned vinegar as a remedy she'd read of but vinegar is the #2 item on my "things to avoid list" from my doc, so I haven't tried it(tomato sauce #1). Maybe I'll try some apple cider vinegar and see if that helps so I can get off the Zantac.

Thanks for the suggestion, mine can be downright brutal when I have it I almost can't sit, I have to lie down or walk around, something about sitting down just really aggravates it.

Does anyone else here take melatonin? I am considering it for travel purposes.

Vinegar is the cure. Actually it isn't the cure but it sure as all heck works instantaneously.
Acid Reflux means stop eating what you are eating. If your digestive system is weak on acid this causes the small amount of acid to vaporize, when it should not.
