So I thought I'd give a little update. I did go down and sign up. Whoo, I finally belong to a gym. Family membership is only $50.00/month. 24-hour fitness center, all new equipment, personal trainers available, and the coolest thing is if you pay monthly (which is what I'm doing) they can freeze your month. So, if you are going out of town for 2 weeks, they roll it over to the next month. Snap Fitness ... amazing little franchise they are.

Plus, the owner is hot.

My thing with gyms is that I've found I can't get a really good workout in a crowded gym because I can't just do my workout, I have to do the workout that's available to me based on what machines aren't being used?

I think that's a big part of why people get in better shape with a personal trainer one on one. Part of it is you have this person pushing you, but part of it is you're not competing with 50 other people to get the machines you want to use.

I used to work out regularly at Club Sport in fremont(CA) at 6:30 am and I finally stopped because I got so sick of waiting for all the machines. My new apartment has a semi decent onsite fitness center I use.

I got lucky with the gym I go to. It's open 24 hours and because I usually work second or third and I go when I get off work, there is usually no one there. It's nice. Got it all to myself really.

I recently took a tour of the new Lifetime Fitness out in Goodyear. Wow. I prefer the Gold’s type gym, lots of free weights and room to move around. But this place blew me away.

Is anyone else a member to Lifetime Fitness? The only drawback is the price, but I don’t mind paying for something as long as I get value from it.

I just joined Pure Fitness. So far, so good. I had been running at the park with no freaking clue how far I was running. I felt super good running for longer on the treadmill than the skinny chick next to me, lol! Plus, knowing the distance I'm at is a huge motivator, especially since I want to run in Pat's Run on 4/7.

Everyone we've met from there is realy nice. When they first opened they came around to all of the local businesses and just chatted with the owners/workers. No pressure to join, etc. Just wanted to make it known that they were in the area.

Coolness. Someone I know recommended them and your post, BIM, makes me feel even better about my decision.

It was just $158, I think, to join and then it's $19 a month after that. Not bad. They seemed really super cool.
