23 million for the four players together seems a lot like but i think they all improve the squad. saying that if spurs dont want them then they must be laughing about picking up 23 mil - shame we cant get bent.

even if we get one or two of them it will improve us though, no doubt about that.

Yup. Sundy had some serious gaps in talent last season. The more premier league caliber talent the better. They don't have to be great, just competent for the top flight.

Listen to me pretend to know what I am talkin about.

you are spot on though!

we have a first team capable of staying up and better - the squad is not premier standard though. This will upgarde in a couple of spots and will add depth.

The trick will be moving on the old guard (mcshane et al) and keeping the old first choices happy in being squad players.

Not easy because after a year of playing the prem lge its easy to go and look for first team football.

I am a moderate soccer fan, and was thinking about getting more into the Premier League stuff. Only problem is, I don't have a team that I would follow more than any other! I used to like Arsenal back in the late 90's, but now I am not so sure. Should I like Arsenal or is that like liking the Yankees? Please help!!

From what I've learned, today's Arsenal is around the 3rd or 4th best team in the Premiere League--Chelsea and Man United seem to be secure in the top 2 spots.

Arsenal is my new team, and I'm still getting to know them, so I would think it's as good as any.

But there is some parity--yesterday I watched a match from last season with Chelsea and Aston Villa--it was one of the best football matches I've ever seen. Ballack was a substitute for Chelsea (he was brought in early for an injured Frank Lampard) and after that, Chelsea didn't have Lampard, John Terry and Drogba, arguably their best players. Aston Villa actually got a red card early and were down to 10 men. Later, Chelsea ended up getting 2 red cards and it was 10 vs. 9 later in the game.

The score ended up 4-4 and it had everything, plays off of set pieces, penalty kicks, midfield holding possession, defenders scoring, you name it. It was an amazing game. I don't know much about Aston Villa, but that might be an interesting team to follow as well.

I think I watched some of that. Really good. It just shows to go you()
that, in the right circumstances, soccer can be VERY entertaining. Not always, but sometimes.

No, never heard of it. I'll try to check it out.

Watching all this football (and I basically spent all day Sunday watching game after game--ah, the joys of being single) has made me want to dust off the old typewriter and write a sports movie about the game---there are so few of those nowadays...

My mother in law has a movie she is pitching that has a soccer player in it. People in the biz say people don't want anymore soccer movies.

Colin Firth in in the Fever Pitch show. You will like it. Great depiction of a fan watching a game convinced his team will blow the game in the end.

Hit close to home as a Cardinal fan.

Ambitious people don't pitch, they make the movie themselves.

Good luck to your MIL though.

Ummm I would recommend the book by Nick Hornby over the movie any day.. Movie was ehhhh ok i guess...

another good soccer movie was Escape to Victory.. has Slyvester Stallone as a keeper in it with Bobby Moore, Pele... about a team of POW against the German National team.. VERY good movie and you can get it from any movie store for about 4-5 bucks it's so old...

Goal 2 was very good.. better then the first i think...

Mean Machine was one of my faves as well....

I didn't even know there was a Goal 2. I liked the first. I LOVED Mean Machine. One of my favorite Brit movies. I'll see if I can track down Escape to Victory.

EDIT: Ok, in the US it's simply called "Victory", and it's running for 7.99 at Amazon, so I may think about picking it up.

Goal 2 comes out August 29, 2008 on DVD.... I was lucky enough to get a copy a few months ago from a buddy... basically without ruining it santiago goes to real madrid from newcastle and the movies takes a bunch of turns from there....

supposed to be a trilogy where goal 3 santiago goes to play in the world cup... not sure what country he will end up playing for though....
