Really? Well, good for you guys, then. No, I obviously didn't know all of that. I'd still chalk it up in the unlikely column. How eager will he be to take on a job with a 2nd-flight club that has completely fallen apart? No offense, but the team is in a shambles.

That said, I hope he does take the job. Then I hope you get promoted. We need that automatic W every time we play

(Although we usually sweat out those Ws)

Quinn: Takeover on course
By Alex Dunn - Created on 19 Jun 2006

Niall Quinn has told Sky Sports News that his proposed takeover of Sunderland is still on course, rejecting claims that the deal is in real doubt.

It had been reported that four of Quinn's eight major investors had pulled out their support for the consortium, with Sean Mulryan, Paddy Kelly, Tom Moran and Pat Power all named.

However, Quinn - the public face of the consortium - has moved quickly to dispell any such fears and instead counters that a takeover could be completed within the next 24 hours.

The former Stadium of Light favourite was jetting in to Sunderland for talks with current chairman Bob Murray, who has promised he will step-down from his role on June 30.

It is expected that any deal would be struck at around the £16 million mark for a club relegated last season from The Premiership and saddled with debts of £40 million.

"Basically, I'm meeting Bob Murray and I'm hoping to close out a deal for the football club,'' he told Sky Sports News.

"I'm very disappointed with the reports which have come out suggesting there are problems with our side.

"I've kept very quiet in the last 12 weeks and have done what I was told to do in terms of confidentiality agreements.

"We are very committed and we are raring to go - we just need to get one more answer now.

"We've delivered and we'll see what the answer is."

This is becoming a carbon copy of last season. They play just well enough to lose. How many one-goal losses have we seen in the last year? Very frustrating!

I'm curious: How much does the average attendance for Sunderland change between seasons in the Premiership and those in the Championship? I don't get the impression that Sunderland has a lot of bandwagon fans, but does the degree of support diminish when their not in the top flight?

we have about 25000 hard core fans and have had for as long as i can remember (i'm 31) week in week out types - and from this we are prob the best supported team away from home in the country (i dont include Man utd as there fans are not form Manchester )

the SAFC supporters are very very wound up at the moment and this has had a knock on effect on the crowds these last few years!

i have done a bit of research and these are our avg attendences for the last few years (p = prem lge and c = champ)

05/06 33904 P
04/05 28821 C
27119 C
39672 P
44108 P
46790 P
41375 P
38724 C
34334 C

as you can see the last few years havent been great whatever lge we have been in but before that there is a dif between P and C crowds - i would say that part of this about 5/6000 is down to playing better teams and partly down to football being a more attractive option for women and family groups about the time of the increase (what with all seater stadia, and to be honest less fighting actually at the match)

Sunderland will continue to be well supported (as we have been in the past - our record attendance was about 76000) but until we see investment in the club it will be around the 25/30000 mark!

with investment it will be 48500 sell outs!

either way i will be there

Quinn needs to fire himself and hire a new manager. This team is an embarrassment right now.
