Game 1 vs. China

BEIJING (AP)—This was the stuff a Dream Team is made of. Acrobatic moves, reverse slams and tomahawk dunks. Who needs outside shooting? Just toss it up and throw it down.

The United States opened its campaign for Olympic basketball redemption Sunday with a 101-70 rout of host China that had even the home crowd oohing and aahing.

Dwyane Wade lobbed one up to LeBron James on a fastbreak, James caught it in midair with one hand and in one motion, slammed it home.

Kobe Bryant drove to the basket a couple of times for tomahawk dunks, sending the crowd into a frenzy each time.

And not to be outdone, Wade had a behind-the-head, back-to-the-basket two-handed dunk of his own.

This wasn’t a game, this was a spectacle.

And the fans, including President Bush, got what they came to see.

Yeah, I totally agree.

There was also a great commercial from Nike with an old NBA game and a guy singing the national anthem...spliced in with the new 2008 Olympic men's team.

No clue who the singer was, but I loved it.

Remember when Shortsanidis was being compared to Shaq by NBA draftnet?

He looked like Shaq today, really out of shape. he's big and probably has some talent but he's a good 40 pounds overweight.

I want to see US and Spain saturday so I can get a look at Ricky Rubio, supposed to be the next great Euro player.

I read about Ricky almost 2 years ago now in a SLAM.. They talked about him like he was the next coming of God or something.. And he was only like I dunno, some really young age in that article.. I wanna see what this kid does too..

He turns 18 in a few months. I was impressed, he came in and turned it over twice quickly but he settled down. And he gave Paul and Williams some problems on defense, he didn't strip them but he had them worrying about it. they moved him off Paul because the ref was calling it tight and he got 2 quick fouls.

Hasn't shown much scoring yet apparently but he looks legit. I guess there's some question if he's 2009 draft eligible may have to wait for 2010 but he looks like the projected top 5 might be realistic.

Several of the US players were praising him afterwards, kidd in particular said he thinks Rubio is going to be a terrific player.
