These are the rules for determining the running order:
So, just because a certain driver is NOT in the top 7, does not mean he doesn't have a top 7 car. It goes by team.
Remember, the shootout is not for points. It is merely the kickoff to the season. It is for bragging rights for the fans and drivers, and a little extra cash in the drivers pockets.
It is also for those of us fans who just can't wait another 7 days till the 500
I like the dual 150 qualifiers. That's how moto-cross was, it's actually a race, stock car timed laps always bugged me since it was just two laps with your fastest being taken. And just one car on the track. Has nothing to do with how the race could go.
Easily 95% of my wins on bikes or in cars came from pressuring someone into a mistake vs totally out riding or driving them. Two hot laps driving like a wildman can't reproduce that.
Based on how it went down though I like Busch's position. Although anything can happen in 500 miles I never liked starting out of the top 6. Too much can go wrong dicing with the back field.

I give it to you if you raced motocross. A buddy of mine from 6yrs old, used to do that. He might still do, I dont know. This guy was a freekin' nut!!! AND a madman on the football field. But he was awesome with a bike. Last time I saw him was 2 or maybe 3 yrs ago. I think he said he was in the nationals in Atlanta and placed second. But, thats not why I seen him. He wasn't racing currently cause he was recovering from an accident. He broke alot of sh it. He says it wasn't his fault, he was in a jump, and so was somebody else, they fuc ked up, got into him, and he was out for 6 months. It sucks when you have to pay the price for somebody else, but that's racing I guess. I haven't talked to him since then, so I don't know if he fully recovered and got back to racing. He's from TN too, and his name is Aaron Warrick, maybe you've seen or heard about him.......
I'm pushing 40 now so anyone I raced against is nowhere near a race track unless spectating.
I haven't heard of him but know the stories well. I've lived through:
Broken left foot- Including all toes, my middle toe still pops out and bugs me for weeks.
Broken right femur- that was ugly, not a compound but it looked bad.
Broken right wrist- Again not a compound but I couldn't help but laugh looking at it. After the morphine shots of course.
Broken left collar bone- Signed a deal with Bell helmets and they said it would break my collar bone instead of my neck. Well, it worked.
Broken right collar bone- See left collar bone.
Broken ribs- Don't sneeze, I swear to god, DON'T SNEEZE!!!!
And my tail bone is seperated from my spine by a little bit in two spots. Yup, I landed right on my ass after running into a stalled rider.
Anyway, I left the sport with two state supercross championships, no money and a lot of stuff that hurts when it rains or gets cold. Not a bad career I guess.

Ya know, Aaron had ALOT of tailbone problems on the football field. It never made a difference in the play, but we knew he was hurting in the huddle. He stepped it up, and so did we. Like I said, he was a madman!!! Never missed a single play on anything. Played center, noseguard, all special teams, everything. My fav memory was we were playing this cross town rival, Donelson Christian (DCA). They had this hot shot RB named Scooter Edwards. I remember him well, because he was the talk of the league, the focal point of the entire week of practice. On kickoff, Aaron told the huddle don't nobody touch him, let me (Aaron) have him. I went scampering down the field as best I could anyway, run over a few blockers, then looked up as I saw Aaron bury his ass, he sent him flying about 10 yards off the field, past the sidelines, behind the bench, and into the fence that seperated the stands from the field. Scooter was fuc ked up!!! They had to call an ambulance and carried him off. It was the first play of the game!! They were so discombobulated without him, we won hands down!!!
I truly believe if it were not for racing motorcross, and the injuries he constantly occurred doing so, we could still be watching this madman play on Sundays!!!!
It was a wild day today according to nascar.com. I missed it cause I had to work
A wild 7 car pile-up, nascar hammering down on the feud between Harvick and Jimmie Johnson, Michael Waltrip won race 1 with JR finishing in 2nd behind him, so DEI came out OK after last weekends disappointing runs. Richard Childress' cars did good too! Race 2 saw Tony Stewart take the checker.
So, the top 10 is :
Dale Jarrett
Jimmie Johnson
Michael Waltrip
Tony Stewart
Dale JR
Jeff Burton
Mike Skinner
Kevin Lepage
Ryan Newman
Martin Truex, JR.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The year-long on-track feud between Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick officially came to a head Thursday, and NASCAR made it clear that they've officially had enough.
Harvick is too immature to be in the cup. He wants to be like Big E was but doesn't have the right temprament or skills to pull it off. You don't just go screwing around like that on restrictor plate tracks. He tore up seven cars and put the drivers involved in a dangerous situation by being stupid.
Sorry BRV, but Ill be watching the NBA All-Star weekend festivities.
All 5 Suns starters will be in the events this weekend.
That's so cool that you're doing your part in helping the NBA inch closer to reaching Nascar's second place TV rating in sports, second only to the NFL. It's just too bad that the NBA will never catch the fastest growing sport in America, because Nascar is predicted to catch the NFL.....

I agree with ya bro. I was happy that he took out Johnson, but after thinking about the good drivers and cars he took out with him, ya it was pretty stupid. Nascar is the wrong sport to be in, and not have any friends.
I edited that remark about giving Harvick a thumbs up for it. It didn't really hurt Johnson anyway, except that he has to go to backup car. JJ is still starting on the front row, its the other 5 drivers who are really screwed up by having to go to backup cars, and starting near the back of the pack.
Do ya think being in the black goodwrench car is getting to his head a little bit??

Yeah, I think the whole trying to replace the "Intimidator" has gone totally to his head. And it was a weak head to begin with.
I disagree JJ is going to be OK in his backup car. Both cars can come off the exact same frame jig and become two totally different units. I know it sounds crazy in this day and age of automation that that could happen but it's true.
Each car is unique. There is no way they can duplicate the primary they tested with and get a backup to perform the same in basically a day of practice.
I'll be surprised if Johnson places top ten on Sunday. On a good note Harvick has no chance either since he tore his car up.
JR and Gordon look to benefit the most. The competition has taken a step back in being prepared.

I think you might have misunderstood me. I meant to say that Harvick really didn't hurt JJ because JJ's starting position of #2 was already locked in place. Harvick just hurt himself, and the others he took out. But yea, going to backup cars is going to screw them all up too. Kind of disgusting too. Racing Daytona with a backup car is like going to the Super Bowl with a pulled hammy. You can play, you just can't keep up!!!
Somebody should've crashed Harvick today. I wish JR would've put his ass into the wall when he passed. And when they interviewed Harvick, he acted like all is well, he's having fun. What an ass. When Stewart crossed the line, he should've locked up his brakes
BTW, Gee enjoyed the race. He called me and all I heard mostly was....OH, OH, aaahhhh........OH, OH, aaaaahhhhh
