Adu scores leads USA

USA beats Chile 2-1 led by Adu's 1 goal and an assist and an almost spectacular 3rd goal.

Hopefully he does something with the U20's so he can realize his dream of playing overseas. He didn't exactly set the world on fire in the last U20 WC.

This U20 tournament will probably have the strongest team the US has ever sent.

We need to start getting some of these young stars, especially strikers, up with the national team, and soon. If we don't, 2010 is going to be a short tourney, if we even qualify.

zeno correct me if I am wrong. Winning the Gold cup automatically qualifies us for the world cup I believe.

Nope. It qualifies us for the Confederations Cup which is held in South Africa the summer before the WC.

We still have to go through WC qualifying.

I expect to see Smith, Altidore and Ferrari in friendlies before qualifying starts--the top performer will probably find themselves playing a big role during qualifiying. Adu is going in behind Beasley, Convey and Mapp at Left Midfielder and behind Feilhaber at center Mid (maybe others too). I still expect Adu to see some action in the friendlies and to be a key sub in WCQ.

So, in other words, Adu would be going in behind Beasley, because I don't see Convey or Mapp as effective players on the national team. They haven't showed a thing thus far, so will they ever? After the kids have begun to mature, we need to start seeing it on the field. We need to give the younger kids like Adu a shot. I agree that it should be in friendlies, though.

Mapp has had 2 games recently with the national team and 2 awesome assists, he's played really well, so much so a lot of people are calling for him to play over Beasley right now. Mapp very much is ahead of Adu, and a healthy Convey was considered first choice at left midfieler under Arena, no telling what Bradley thinks. Adu has a lot of work to do to beat out any of those guys.

So that tells me he sucks Sorry, the Arena era, especially late, is a nightmare memory and doesn't hold much weight to me. I'll take your word on Mapp because I haven't been able to see most of the games.
