I’m glad Monday Night football is back, unfortunately it will probably be a pretty sloppily played game since mostly reserves will be playing. It sounds like the Chiefs will play the starters a quarter and a half, and the Packers will play starters like Favre and Green only 2 or 3 series. The Packers don’t want to risk injury to them, especially since they have some injured starting Offensive lineman sitting out.

For the Chiefs, I’m curious to see if Priest Holmes is OK after he injured his hip last year. He became the first undrafted player in almost 50 years to lead the NFL in rushing. I kind of root for underdogs like that and hope is injury is healed. I’d hate to see him end up having to cut his career short like Terrell Davis who has the bad knee and wasn’t a highly sought out player either when he was drafted.

For the Packers, I’m eager to see the rookie LB Nick Barnett, and the 3rd string QB Nall. Some of the national magazines felt the Packers picked Barnett to high, but early reports out of training camp are the Packers made the right choice with the 29th pick in the first round. It sounds like he's a player and he’ll be a starter this year. I’m also curious to see if Nall’s impressive NFLE numbers transfer to the NFL. It might be hard to tell though with so many Packer receivers sitting out of this game with injuries.

Yeah, I figured they won't be playing Favre much at all this first game. I'm more interested in seeing who we got and what they can do. Also, I'm interested in seeing Nall get back in there and make some plays. Heck, this early in the preseason I'd just like to see him make positive yards on the field, I'm not too interested in him "wowing" me right off the bat.

Agreed. I don't really care who wins or losses or what the score is. I'm more interested in seeing how well they play and if some players stepped up their game and made improvement over last year.

I wish we had more receivers healthy for the game though. Not so much for Favre, but for Nall. It sounds like both starters, Driver and Ferguson will sit out. So we'll be starting the game with backups, and by the time Nall gets in there instead of playing with the better backups he'll probably be playing with 4th stringers as his receivers. I'd kind of like to see how Nall would do with better receivers who know the offense better and know where to run. Otherwise I don't really care if starters sit out.

It sounds like Sherman wants to use the extra preseason game the Packers have to get a better look at some of the young backups like Nall. I agree with that. No sense wearing out the starters in preseason and getting them all injured.

Being a Bears fan, one article I read scared the crap out of me. Favre was really taking uop his WRs...something I have never heard him really do before. He was saying this is the most athletic group he has ever played with. I think he is going to have a huge year assuming everyone stays healthy.

Oline still a major concern for you guys?

Yeah, I read a couple of quotes like that too where Favre said this group of receivers has more talent and ability than any he's played with, that they just lack some experience. I hope he's right.

It sounds like our Oline will be OK when the season starts, but they are kind of going slow with the Tackles because of last years injuries and holding them out the first couple of preseason games. I just hope the backups don't get Favre killed. It sounds like we have more depth on our line this year though expect for left tackle.

Are you going to the Bears preseason game down here?

I'm curious to see how Grossman does for the Bears over the years.

Yeah I got tix to the Bears preseason game and the Packers Reg season game (my wife was born and raised in GB). I have season tickets but have never sat in the seats...give them to my clients as thank yous for the business.

I was disappointed in the Grossman choice...I hope he proves me wrong. Kordell is doing well in camp and this will be the most exciting Bears offense in years (I hope). They will use his mobility alot with QB draws, rollouts and rolling pockets. Things that couldn't be done with Stone Feet Miller.\

Too bad the Bears won't even get a win when they reopen Soldier's Field. I fear until #4 retires the Packers will continue to rip the hearts out of Bears fans...although I hope and pray every time they don't.

Good Woman

What's your thoughts on the Vikings? I'm kind of worried about them. They signed 4 free agents that were starters elsewhere. They weren't real big name starters, but nonetheless, if you add 4 players who were starters elsewhere, that has to improve your team and depth.

Plus, their offense was still rated very high last year. They just turned the ball over to much. If they cut down the turnovers, they could be hard to handle.

It seems like most people don't think much of the Vikings, but I got a feeling they could be one of those surprise teams that turns it around. Every year it seems a couple of losing teams turn it around, and I'm wondering if it will be the Vikings turn this year.

The thing that hurts them though is Bennetts foot injury and the TE Chamberlain's 4 game suspension.

With my luck, Hovan will put a cheap shot on Favre opening day. He's been lipping off all off season about Favre, and how he has a Favre jersey hanging on his wall for motivation.

I am a guy who is not too impressed with the Vikings and that could be to our detriment. Their offesne is good but they will only do as far as their defense takes them and I still have reservations about their D...especially their DBs.

Bennett hurts and I always wonder about the Culpepper/Moss dynamic. There isn't a complementary weapon to Moss on this team...at least not one who will take a DC's undivided attention. Will it be harmony or will they be on the wrong page again.

Hovan is a punk IMO. The Packers should be a bit nervous about him taking a cheap shot...I wouldn't pput it past him.

My view of NFC North

Packers (assuming no majors hurts, they are still tops in division)

Bears (never as good as 13-3, not as bad as 4-12 way too may injuries last year)

Lions (I think they will show to be vastly improved. Rogers injuries though may set that back a bit)

Vikings (I just am not sold on their DBs. Can their O get back on track?)

WOW - Vikings dead last in the Division - you really think so? I figured the battle for the cellar would be between the Lions & Bears. We'll so though, they don't call it the Black & Blue Division for nothing, eh?

I'll echo Houdini's sentiment on the Packers O-Line, I think they'll be fine. They're a little sketchy just because of injury, but their O-Line always steps up and plays. They've got some good line coaches there in GB and they'll have them ready to play - whomever "them" is.

And lest we forget - Mark Tauscher was a 7th round draft pick by the Packers 4 seasons ago and he started 14 of the 16 games he played in and he did a remarkable job. They've got a way of teaching them up there that really gets them play. I've got no worries on the Offensive side of the ball - I'm very confident in their chances to move to chains.

Shawn

Yeah, the Cardinals choose not to be on Monday Night Football because they realize they have a ton of fans who work nights....so they are truely a fan oriented team. Unlike those ****ty fudge Packers who make all those night workers miss their game.

But the Packers made it up to the night workers by scheduling a day game this coming Thanksgiving. Nothing beats giving thanks while eating "TurDuckin" and watching football
