Leftwich notes

I went to the ASU game last night with a friend of mine named Dan. He is from Grand Junction originally & he played WR in high school & Bill Musgrave was his QB.

Musgrave went on to play at Oregon & is now the OC at Jacksonville.

Anyways, Dan went back to Colo this past summer & ran into Musgrave's father. They talked about Bill's recent hiring as OC of Jax & discussed BLeftwich at length.

Supposedly Leftwich is one of the most physically gifted QBs that Musgrave has seen.

However, the guy does not have the mindset of an NFL QB right now. They said they had to simplify the offense tremendously & basically ran a high school offense last year.

That being said, he does say that he has potential but right now, the offense is bare bones & similar to how the Cards had to dummy up Trestman's offense when Jake was here.

Take it for what it's worth - I got a 3rd hand accout of this, but he's always been right on with his Musgrave accounts.

Cool

Not buying into that one

Leftwich is not as smart as Pennington, but don't let anyone fool you into thinking he is anything less than intelligent. His offense at Marshall was not that simple, and he often audiblized at the line.
Rookie NFL QB's need the game to slow down before they can add much to the complexity of the offense. Remember that rookie QB's get 9 guys in the box each down and they are balls out to knock him senseless. Give it two more years and Byron will be Pro Bowl material. The question is: Will he be better than Chad in the end. I think so; but I think Pennington lasts longer in the league. He doesn't need as much arm strength as Leftwich to be successful. Now that dude is smart (and now very rich).

good points! I loved watching Byron play in college. I am still ticked that the Cards did not take him or Suggs...

Me too.

I hope I don't end up pissed off in the coming years that we didn't take Roethlisberger (I don't think I will).
