I mean how many adults were complacent throughout this scene?
Quote:
WESTFIELD, Mass. (Oct. 28) - With an instructor watching, an 8-year-old boy at a gun fair aimed an Uzi at a pumpkin and pulled the trigger as his dad reached for a camera.
It was his first time shooting a fully automatic machine gun, and the recoil of the weapon was too much for him. He lost control and fatally shot himself in the head.
I imagine that would be the NRA's spin on it. What are the odds that restrictions will be willfully enacted regarding minors firing these weapons?
Huh? What does the NRA have to do with anything? I thought your comment showed a lack of compasion for the dead child. The parent and instructor are surely stupid and the NRA I would imagine will say they are the problem not children learning to shoot a fire-arm. I would never let an 8 year old shoot an Uzi. With that said I will take my daughter out next year to learn how to shoot with a ruger 10/22. She is 10...

Guess I should have included the smilie.
IMHO, minors should not be allowed to fire freakin Uzis at gun shows. The NRA and their political muscle has everything to do with it. We have all been around long enough to know absolutely nothing will change out of this tragedy. The kid is just unfortunately another loser in the random gun victim lottery. Just another statistic.

Don't disagree about kids shooting sub-machine guns... I would anticipate the NRA will place the blame where it belongs on the instructor and possibly the father.

Ditto...
FWIW, I am for banning assault weapons... However, to look at anyone else but the father here is so wrong...

Actually, the professional firearms instructor is HIGHLY culpable in this one. I have been to both state and military level firearms training, and the range masters/instructors are ALWAYS responsible for everyone's lives on the range.
The father handed the child the weapon yes, but it was the instructor's responsibility to ensure that all safety precautions were observed - including, and up to, not allowing an 8-yr-old to have a high-recoil weapon in his hands without assistance, if at all.
I've fired an Uzi before, and I though I am pretty stocky, I still needed both arms at high tension to keep the Uzi from pointing completely towards the sky. Also, if you are able to catch it at just the right moment, you can actually catch all 32 shells from a 32 round mag up in the air on a still camera. So, unless you are aware of this capability beforehand, there really is no time to "think" about bracing yourself.
