Yep, just jump of the deep end and exaggerate what I said.
Of course you know I didn't say that but heck never let facts get in the way of a good rant
You must be speaking in code again nidan... I could have sworn you said: "Don't you think a little legislation might help like oh say 'Its illegal to allow an 8yr old to use a firearm"...

What else is there to argue?? Either the father - you know, the guy who brought the 8 year old into this world - allows his 8 year old to shoot the gun or not?
I have a 7 year old son that watches me play Call of Duty where people are actively shooting uzis and multitude of other automatic weapons.
I would never even take him to a gunshow at his age, because I don't think that he is at the age to understand the responsibility of shooting a gun.
Maybe if he were 10 or 11, I'd consider it.
No way, no how, no McCain.
I understand this line of thinking and I'm okay with it. But I'm going to take a different approach.
You guys should have a hayday with what I'm about to tell you.
I get back from my deer hunting trip and I'm cleaning my rifle and hand-gun. Rifle is finished a put away. Right at the very beginning of clean my hand gun I get a call from a piece o crap market.
Before the call my 5 year old daughter is talking to me about the rifle, hand-gun, and hunting because she is interested. My 5 year old pics up my hand-gun!!! (unloaded and no magazine but I've talked to her about what to do about guns and she failed miserably!!!) I hang up and chew her out for the next five minutes so bad she cowered in the corner sobbing!!!
At that point I realized I had failed. So I tell her that it wasn't her fault and I'm the one who screwed up. The next time I go shoot both my daughters are going and I will show them what guns do. I don't want them to be afraid, just respect what they can do.
Okay, rip away...

FWIW - I am FOR a ban on assault weapons!
Not much considering we're debating degrees. I'm advocating that the NRA get behind a ban on assault weapons, or at the very least get out of the way of such legislation.
A father who lets his 8 yr old kid shoot an uzi is a danger to the child, who looks out for the kids best interest when their caretakers are a danger to them (even if it's one particular instance)?
We need a law to prevent a father from allowing his 8 year old to shoot an Uzi??? Holy crap...
I didn't say that, if I am mistaken please show me where. I did say that maybe it should be illegal to give an 8yr old a firearm, I also suggested the NRA would fight that.

Now for the really great rhetoric. Again please show me where I suggested that, yah know I just can't find it.
What you did in the second case is a debating technique, you ask yourself a rhetorical question as though I had said it in order to make my comments look more extreme, when in fact it is all an invention of yours.
If you want to disagree fine, but try to disagree with what I say rather than your own comments.
Yes you messed up, twice possibly but are taking a responsible attitude.
I would disagree with one point though.
A 5yr old hasn't developed the menatal capacity to be responsible with firearms. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to educate them to stay away from the guns. Much like teaching them not to put their hand in the fireplace.
The NRA sued the State of Wisconsin, when thy refused to issue hunting licenses to blind Boy Scouts about ten years ago. Blind people are now allowed to hunt with rifles, shotguns and bows. Thank you NRA. I stay out of Wisconsin.

I would think that if the NRA stands for responsible gun ownership and use they would issue a statement that could be found somewhere condemning this kind of totally irresponsibility use guns and their personal attempt to use their influence to prevent this type of incident from happening again.
Yeah, I know. You'd think they'd have something like this on their site:
Quote:
In civilian training, the NRA continues to be the leader in firearms education. Over 50,000 Certified Instructors now train about 750,000 gun owners a year. Courses are available in basic rifle, pistol, shotgun, muzzleloading firearms, personal protection, and even ammunition reloading. Additionally, nearly 1,000 Certified Coaches are specially trained to work with young competitive shooters. Since the establishment of the lifesaving Eddie Eagle® Gun Safety Program in 1988, more than 12 million pre-kindergarten to sixth grade children have learned that if they see a firearm in an unsupervised situation, they should "STOP. DON'T TOUCH. LEAVE THE AREA. TELL AN ADULT." Over the past seven years, Refuse To Be A Victim® seminars have helped more than 15,000 men and women develop their own personal safety plan using common sense strategies.
Oh, wait. That's where I got that.

Yeah, we will see how well she handles what a bullet does to a tree stump... She may not get it. I also believe she wouldn't have picked it up if I wasn't there but because I was within 5 ft of the hand-gun she thought it was okay.
