As to gay fire fighters, yes, they do exist and the way the issue is handled varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. In SF, 'tain't no thing. In Mesa, AZ, it is unlawful (yep, you heard me) to be gay and in public safety. Mesa nonetheless turns a blind eye to more than one homosexual (kind of a don't ask, don't tell thing) in the fire department. Although there's still a few slack-jawed knuckle-draggers in Mesa Fire, most of the people could care less and there is no difficulty in team cohesiveness.
Sorry you are wrong - it is not "unlawful" to be gay and in public safety in Mesa.
I know, but the laws ARE on the books. Basically it is illegal to be gay in Mesa. It is also illegal to get a little head in Mesa as well.
They may be on the books, but are not valid. The Supreme court overruled them.
Just like Alabama still had a law on the books until recently that it was illegal for inter-racial marriages to occur. The law was officially on the books, but uneforceable.
If Mesa tried to enforce them, they'd lose a multi-million $ lawsuit.
Oral Sex and Sodomy are illegal in Mesa. French Kissing is listed as a form of oral sex.
I gotta tell you a good one. I was raised Catholic. When I was about to make my first communion and had to go to confession, as I was sitting in church looking over my little handbook that had all the sins listed, I saw one that I had no idea what it was, but figured I'd better cover my bases.
You should have seen the look on Father Fitzmorris's face when I said "Bless me father for I have sinned. I committed sodomy."

Hope it didn't turn him on.
I can say that because I'm Catholic. So there.

I gotta tell you a good one. When I was about 300 years old, I created the Catholic religion. When I was about to make my first communion and had to go to confession, as I was sitting in church looking over my little handbook that had all the sins listed, I saw one that I had no idea what it was, but figured I'd better cover my bases.

Thanks, ChrisS...... Those laws ARE INDEED on the books in Mesa and whether or not they are enforceable is irrelevant to my point. In the early 80's, a gay police detective was dismissed, but only because he insisted on marching into the Chief's office and announcing his sexual preferences. Before and since, the rest have been "don't ask, don't tell."
