Hopefully you're kidding. Just to clarify, what the people are posting on this thread are their honest thoughts and I believe what they say. On the other hand, I think there is another reason why Tony Perkins is against gays in the military and I find his statements on this issue dishonest.

I'm a mixed bag of emotions!

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
LOL -- yeah, I read this yesterday and thought, "OK, I am REALLY glad to know it's just a drill..."
Then I thought -- do they ever do anything remotely like that in the USA? Chris, you know that stuff -- do we do any serious drills on a large scale? After last summer they are totally overhauling not only the military, but their entire civil defense/response system from top to bottom. Or at least so they say.
Back to topic -- Chris, are there Gay firemen that others know about? If so, is it a problem? If not, how does it work?
As to drills and the like, I would suggest that everyone watch the movie "Dirty War." Although set in London, it is analogous to the way drills are done in this country, and it's very realistic. This movie is a must watch for anyone who gives a damn. It will scare the hell out of you. Think "too little, too late," and you'll get the idea.
As to gay fire fighters, yes, they do exist and the way the issue is handled varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. In SF, 'tain't no thing. In Mesa, AZ, it is unlawful (yep, you heard me) to be gay and in public safety. Mesa nonetheless turns a blind eye to more than one homosexual (kind of a don't ask, don't tell thing) in the fire department. Although there's still a few slack-jawed knuckle-draggers in Mesa Fire, most of the people could care less and there is no difficulty in team cohesiveness.

I was in the Air Force for 7 years (1970-1977) and there were a number of guys (and gals) that we pretty much considered to be gay.
We could have cared less. We were much more concerned about how well they could do their jobs and how much beer they could drink than their private sexual choices.
Geeeezzzzz people. Can you say "homophobia?" Sure ya can.... I knew you could.... (apologies to Mr. Rogers).
