It simply will not happen in the end.
The US gets a preferential agreement from Canada and Mexico on energy access and prices under Nafta.
A secure source of energy, and we can't charge you more, than we charge ourselves for oil and natural gas.
If Nafta is re-opened that agreement ends, and in case you don't know, Canada is the no. 1 exporter of oil to the US (18% of your imported needs - 15% comes from Saudi Arabia) and when combined with natural gas and hydroelectric power, we meet 25% of US import needs.
We have no issue with so-called environmental and labour requirements, as, it's generally agreed, our laws on these matters is more stringent than yours. But, there are many up here who would love to get out of the continental energy aspects of Nafta... so, as said... I doubt the Dems will re-open the agreement in the end.
A few side agreements, understandings will be signed... everyone will declare victory and life will go on.
