Who decided that some words are bad and shouldn't be said? I fail to see what the point is and also why some (like the notorious "F" word) are worse than other swears. Why do religious people condemn swearing? As far as I know there isn't anything in the bible forbiding it (please correct me if I'm wrong) so it would then be something we added. to the best of my knowledge there isn't a commandment along the lines of "thou shalt not say #@$% nor &^% nor &@%^. What does it accomplish having forbidden words?
Theories anyone?

You'll be missed.
Colosians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Matthew 5:37: "But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."
It's basically saying any kind of slander, swearing, etc., is just worthless communication coming from your mouth. So don't do it...let your yes be yes, no be no, and don't fill your words full of anger, etc.
I don't think it's the word so much as the feelings behind saying it.
Instead of saying f*ck, if I said "frick!" in the same way, with those feelings behind it...it's probably wrong is God's eyes.

It probably starts there.
That's not about swearing though, I think it means don't be frontin with Jesus. Don't say you follow the teachings and are a good christian if you don't act the part. Also don't use God's name to further your own goals, like killing "in the name of God."

But it also includes swearing...like God damn, etc...that taking his name in vain.

Just my opinion.

Like you said those passages have more to do with intent than specific words. So why are specific words off limit? I can say poop, crap is ok but frowned upon and s**t is not allowed. The all mean the same thing but the one beginning with "S" is bad while the "P" one is cute. I can say fornicate, procreate, hump, bonk, screw, etc... but I can't say you-know-what. Why do these chosen few words offend people? Why do people get angry about hearing words that are mostly related to bodily functions?

How common was that before the commandments were written? Is that a common Latin phrase? The bible wasn't written in english.
Joseph and Mary are on their way to Bethlehem and Mary, heavy with an expectant child, is riding the horse while Joseph walks beside them leading the way. While walking on the rough road Joseph stubs his toe and yells "Jesus." Mary turns to him and says, "the perfect name for the baby!"

My understanding of the meaning of that commandment has nothing to do with saying G.. D... - but everything to do with swearing oaths to God that you do not keep - you are using the name of God for a purpose (to have people trust you) then breaking that trust.
I always find it funny when people use words like "Frick", Fudge, Sheba, etc the way you would use the cuss words - the intent and meaning are the same, so how are you being better by not saying exactly what you mean??
It's just a theory but I believe that what makes a word considered bad or dirty has to do with the connotation rather than the denotation. It all has to do with what is generally considered a "nicer" way of saying thinigs. Most people think that the word f*** just sounds bad and that probably has more to do with what images come to mind when saying it. Whereas a word like procreate connotes the actual making of a life.
It's all about what the word, in general, brings to people's minds.

Seriously, most words have meanings. For example For Unlawful Cardinal Knowledge. (F. U. C. K.). When the courts made that acronym it was considered rude to say a word with such meaning around women.
I assume.
