Wayward, I believe it was your suggestion to discuss the startegies/ramifications of certain events as the election gets near. Well:
Clark was entered the race.
My understanding is the military (ie soldiers) generally has been a Republican stronghold over the years. If so, how does having a General effect the race from their vote perspective? I mean they would actually have a CinC who served with no questions.
Will the Republicans lose some votes in this? Will the Democrats lose votes they had previosuly counted as their own to the general.

Originally posted by Brian in Mesa Hasn't Clark been in the news bashing Bush? I don't think too many soldiers serving under Bush would warm up to him just based on that fact.
But Clark served and Bush...well let's say he didn't. I am wondering if they will rally to Clark because of the military service. The soldiers like Bush more for Republican reasons than for military reasons. I just wonder if the ex-General angle will have any effect?
My guess is their voting ranks may be split some since we are talking about a guy who served his country in the armed forces. Bush, the person, isn't quite as popular with the soldiers these days, either. Doesn't mean they won't vote for him but he isn't popular.

The military vote will depend heavily on the morale of the troops in the Middle East. Clark definitely becomes the most legitimate Democratic canidate...but he still has to win the primary on short notice.
First of all, I don't think Clark can beat Bush any more than Dean, Kerry, Edwards, Liberman, etc.
He is a legitimate Vietnam war hero, and NOBODY can takee that away from him. However, he will have to answer a few questions.
First question is from I think it was 1993, when he was the commander of Fort Hood. Some morons killed a federal agent in Waco, TX, Jenet Reno asked for the military assistance, Clinton allowed it and Clark sent 17 armored vehicles, and 20 soldiers or something like that, and they killed over 80 people in Texas.
I am doing all this from memory, so the details may not be exactly correct but the point is he will have to answer questions regarding this.
There is another question- War in Kosovo. Don't think for one second that the Republicans, and even other Democrats will not ask him questions about that- destroying infrustructure, targeting civilians on purpose, ordering a British general to attack Russian forces in Kosovo. He refused, Clark ran to his master (Clinton) started bitching about it, and he got fired soon after that.
I already talked to a few friends in ther military and they all say the same thing- NEVER will they vote for Gen. Clark.

Thanks for sticking to the spirit of the thread dickhead. It isn't a partisan thread, it is how you think it may effect the military vote...but I guess your exit poll tells you nothing will change.
The thread wasn't about if Clark ccould beat Bush...but you saw fit to lead off with that. Typical Stefan.

Hey, the question was if this would affect the military vote, I talked to a few people who know him PERSONALLY from Fort Hood, talked to several other military people, and emailed a few friends in Iraq, and everybody says the same thing.
By the way, your mommy must be really proud of you- her baby can call people "dickhead. Congradulations.

I can spell dickhead but you apparently cannot spell congratulations???
Sorry, your 10 people do not represent a true sample of what may or may not happen.

A spelling retort? Seriously???? Talk about lame.
By the way, mark this down. I agree with Stefan. Not necessarily with his response, but the fact that he expressed his opinion about the candidates viability and then even said his presonal experience was of the belief that he would not win the military vote.
Stefan knows I think he can be a dickhead (ha!) but in this instance youre WAY off base.
