There you go throwing assumptions around again... I would chastise any American who didn't know what the Cuban missle crisis was, but to have the person who is the connect between the white house and the American public clueless is unacceptable IMO!
There's no such thing as a "do over" in the political arena.
Of course it doesn't matter... Just like it doesn't matter that she appears to have not been aware of the Bay of Pigs...
This is too funny actually... While I know many here would have found a way to go after her for some odd reason or another, had she not taken a whimsical path onto NPR's Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me, a show where people appear with the strict purpose of being lampooned, none of this would be at issue... She appears on the show, pushed the boundaries of the show a bit by carrying on about being oblivious to the Cuban Crisis, and suddenly she does not possess a "basic understanding" of U.S. History...

Wow...
Even the "righties" here disagree with you. So basically it's 82 vs. everyone and of course that equates in your mind to everyone being wrong but you. Concidering your low expectations for anyone associated with this admin, no surprise.
$100 says if this was a democratic admin you would have been all over this.

As if I should be shocked that I stand alone in this thread?? Now that's funny KloD!!!!!
As for the $100, stay with that buddy if you dare... I'm quite certain I'll be able to cash that one in some day down the road...

What's funny is while you're consistantly dismissing any valid criticism of anyone associated with this admin due to your belief that it's just the crazy left blaming everything on poor ol' dubya again, it apparently escapes you that you defend EVERYTHING dubya... even some ignorant press secretary. The rest of us... we're judging Dana on her ignorance, not because she works for this admin. But if it makes you feel more right...

No... wrong again... I choose to actually listen to the woman, what she said on NPR and what she said in the press conference. I happen to believe that on the NPR show, she let her guard down and stretched the "fun" & "loose" element of the show... While I don't believe she is an expert on the Cuban Missile Crisis (and I certainly don't believe she need be in her role), I do believe she knew what it was, as well as the Bay of Pigs...
As for her comments in the press conference where she stated that Putin's remarks relative to our Missile Defense initiative were not historically comparable to the Cuban Crisis - I agree... I believe a very strong case can be made that the two are not at all comparable...
But hey, Presidents and their appointed officials and staff are always easy game... It's what our country does so well... Smell a little blood and go for the kill! That's what politics is, that's what the media perpetuates, and that's what our country gobbles up like candy!
I know it drives you and most of this board NUTS that I often come to the defense of our(or shall I say "my" as you guys like to put it) President. It's what makes our country so great, right? Diversity... It's a wonderful thing!
So, because she didn't know about the Cuban Missile Crisis, this means she does not possess a "basic understanding" of U.S. History??
Interesting...
uh, in short... yes. It's beyond pathetic to me that anyone who's ever gone to high school or college, much less someone holding a position in the White House, has no clue about one of the most important historical moments in the country's history.

Yes... I would be quite surprised if Ms. Perino went through her entire educational career, and was never exposed to the Bay of Pigs...
But again, IMO, that's besides the entire point of this thread. My contention has simply been, why in the world is it important that a Press Sec. know of the Cuban Missile Crisis?? Nobody has yet been able to answer that question...
i would like to think that any government official who serve as a mouthpiece for the highest office in the country would be smarter/more well versed in American history than a 14 year old going through a freshman US History course. It's important because as much as I believe the government is made up of complete imbeciles, there's a small sliver of me that has hope that I'm just overly cynical and stuff like this makes that sliver grow smaller and smaller. That's why it's important to me.
