I never said that KloD... You guys are so quick to go after anyone associated with W it's just plain laughable...
Of course having a basic understanding of U.S. history should be a requirement for a gov't job. I never said anything to the contrary...
However, are we to assume that in all administrations up to this point, that all previous appointed positions were filled by people who had an understanding of the Cuban Missile Crisis? Is Dana Perino the first and only administration employee in the last 20 years or so, who did not have an understanding of the Cuban Missile Crisis??
We can then also debate exactly what is a "basic understanding of U.S. History"? And should a Press Sec. be mandated to have a command of U.S History on a par with, oh I don't know, pick an official position???

As I said, I am not at all defending Perino - though, I'm not even sure she requires a defense...

Okay, 82, I will start. After who is buried in Grant's tomb, any college graduate should be able to know what the Cuban Missile Crisis was.

There you go throwing assumptions around again... I would chastise any American who didn't know what the Cuban missle crisis was, but to have the person who is the connect between the white house and the American public clueless is unacceptable IMO!

The fact that the press secretary to a WH administration that is staunchly pro-embargo against Cuba doesn't know sh*t about sh*t when it comes to Cuba is a terribly embarrassing thing....

They taught us about the Cuban Missile Crisis in 10th grade. Maybe she, like many in this administration, have long term memory problems.

Ok Mulli... So, are you suggesting that "all college grads" be required to take a test to prove that they have been tought the Cuban Missile Crisis?
Should all prospective gov't employees be forced to take a test to support their knowledge and awareness of the Cuban Missile Crisis??

There is a litmus test already with this administration and competence isn't on there.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and state that you are going to have a lot of "chastising" to do!

Yes to both. Such a test would be the interview process. I am thinking a normal interview process would indicate whether or not someone is so dumb they do not know what the Cuban Missile Crisis is. Pretty sure the Press Secretary interview process should reveal such blatant dumbness.

However,

In a country where we frequently lose at "Are you smarter than a 5th grader", I guess she is just indicative of America as a whole rather than this administration.

I get the sense that people here are demanding more than a litmus test! They want actual, more formal confirmation of the incompetence!! Ya never know...

College? Hell, I didn't even go to high school and knew what the Cuban missile crisis was about.

I'd bet she has a job at Foxnews waiting for her.
