I won't disagree with that.
However, if they get reelected after that, THEN the people have spoken.

Yeah, you keep thinking that.

No.

You know, it is probably just a matter of wishing Republicans on the whole get their act together and straight. Regardless of how wrong liberal Congressional politicians are, they stick together with an envious consistency.

I think if you gauge the rate correctly, then yes go ahead and eliminate all the deductions. I think people will still end up ahead.

Problem with a thing such as a flat tax is there will inevitably be an attempt to start adding 'little taxes' to that. Then you get away from the concept.

Develop the flat tax and don't change it. Make the government live within its means like we have to.

I think he is great for what he DID.

I embarassed in him as a political leader.

This does NOT mean I don't respect the totality of his person. It means he is no longer a conservative.

And it would be fairer to everyone. Child Tax Credits do nothing for me - why should one group of people be favored in the tax code over another?

The primary purpose of a tax should be to raise revenue, not play politics.

Indeed, that is part of what makes him great.

McCain consistently stands up for what he believes in. For his party...against his party...he votes and speaks with what he feels.

Even if you don't agree with everything he does, I really appreciate that sort of honesty in the world of politics now.

Of course, it is a sad indictment of our political system in that being true to yourself earns you the title "political maverick."

It shouldn't be so rare as to have it's own title.

By the way

I am a moderate. I was a registered Republican for 10 years but switched to Democrat out of protest of how the state of Arizona is run by the Republican party.

I vote for the best man though, regardless of political party.

So, you're against the marriage penalty?

I suppose mortgage interest deduction is discriminatory as well.

I appreciate your opinion.

We shall agree to disagree. I don't see consistency. I see changes of stance for political/popular reason or perhaps something more horrible. I think he craves the 'maverick' thing up too much and it has sold him.

Marriage penalty - should not have one - everyone should be taxed the same.

Mortgage interest deduction does discriminate against those who don't own a house - if I choose to rent, why should I be penalized?

I've been out of Arizona for so long, I can't effectively comment on the state of the state. Seems the state has been trending democratic for some time.
