Video Seems to Show Beheading of American

CAIRO, Egypt - A video posted Tuesday on an Islamic militant Web site showed a group affiliated with al-Qaida beheading an American contractor in Iraq (news - web sites), saying the death was revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers.

The video showed five men wearing headscarves and black ski masks, standing over a bound man in an orange jumpsuit — similar to a prisoner's uniform — who identified himself as Nick Berg, a U.S. contractor whose body was found on a highway overpass in Baghdad on Saturday.

"My name is Nick Berg, my father's name is Michael, my mother's name is Susan," the man said on the video. "I have a brother and sister, David and Sarah. I live in ... Philadelphia."

After reading a statement, the men were seen pulling the man to his side and putting a large knife to his neck. A scream sounded as the men cut his head off, shouting "Allahu Akbar!" — "God is great." They then held the head out before the camera.

"For the mothers and wives of American soldiers, we tell you that we offered the U.S. administration to exchange this hostage with some of the detainees in Abu Ghraib and they refused," one of the men read from a statement.

"So we tell you that the dignity of the Muslim men and women in Abu Ghraib and others is not redeemed except by blood and souls. You will not receive anything from us but coffins after coffins ... slaughtered in this way."

The video bore the title "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi shown slaughtering an American." It was unclear whether al-Zarqawi — a lieutenant of Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) — was shown in the video, or was claiming responsibility for ordering the execution.

The Web site on which the video was posted is known as a clearing house for al-Qaida and Islamic extremist groups' statements and tapes.

Bingo! Exactly. And we have their prisoners stripped naked & stacked in a pile while they are burning, killing & mutilating our people.

That's the exact reaction that these idiots want. This was not Iraqi's. This was al-Queda trying to use the prison scandle as an excuse to stir the pot.

These guys need to be brought to justice. Torturing prisoners isn't going to stop al-Queda from what they are doing. All it will prove is that we are frustrated because we can't find the thousands of al-Queda members still at large.

I'm not sure who you mean by the "anti-war" people.

But I'm wondering....what is it that you think some one should say in response to this? Are you wanting someone to say....."blah, blah, blah...so what?, or No, I'm not outraged?"

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. I generally respect what most of you two brothers usually say.

But I have to admit...I'm wondering...

just what actually IS your agenda here?

score a BINGO! for you here!

My first post was written before any of the other replys were made, and I didn't see them until after it posted.
But now that agenda's are becoming more clearly defined...I think you are right on MCD.

I just get very mad when I hear that civilians are there to help rebuild their city instead of being home in the US with their families are getting burned and dragged thru the streets, and tortured. Sorry but after 9/11 I have so much hatred in my heart for actions like this.

No agenda, but in my opinion, al-Quieda needs to be brough down. They should be wiped off the face of this planet. What they did vs NY & DC is unexcusable & we should make every effort to stop these cowards now.

We all hate these actions because they are so disgusting. However if you let your emotions get to you before you assess the situation, most offen you will make the wrong decision. If we were to do what you said before and torture the prisoners, then score one for al-Queda. That was the exact reaction they want. Their goal is to start an all out war. They don't care about American's, Iraqi's or whoever. We must not lose sight of this!

al-Queda members are the ones that should feel the sting of justice.

And "hatred" like that accomplishes what?

What happened on 9/11 affected, I would think, us all very deeply.

But "blind" hatred, really accomlishes nothing overall.

...I can't comment on this from first hand knowledge, but from past experience in Viet Nam, I would wonder how many of the "civilians there to help rebuild their city" are there for altruistic reasons. I don't know.
But history, at least has shown that most are there primarily to make a buck.
Not that that in any way shape or form justifies ANY hostilities towards them.
They are there by choice, and I would think knowledge of the risks and situation were weighed.
So I would caution you there, in regards to prematurely fueling your hate based on that.

Let go of the hate. All hate does is consume you.

At least we know that these guys will pay for their actions someday.

Thanks MadCard, I see your point. I have a very short temper and when I try to think what is going thru the US civilians heads while getting tortured by these heartless scumbags it makes my blood boil. I really feel for them, but for some reason when I see Arabs dancing in the streets torturing Americans I feel nothing and could kill every last one without any regret.

I match your and raise you

What do you expect the "anti-war" people to say? Gee, this is great, I can't wait to see more innocent people be killed!

Or, they deserved it, they are fighting in an unjust war!

What I will say, and I won't use broad, intellectually sloth like you have....

This is terrible, and is the actions that one would expect from hate mongering religious fanatics and terrorists. This is exactly WHY we can not torture people who are in our custody.
