US Senate - Tennessee: Ford (D) vs. Corker(R)
Open Seat created by the retirement of Bill Frist.
Republican Candidate - Former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker:

Democratic Candidate - U.S. Representative Harold Ford Jr.

Ford was unopposed in the Democratic Primary, and trying to be the first Black U.S. Senator from the South since Reconstruction.
Corker won a bruising three-way battle vs. two far-right candidates, who blasted Corker as too liberal

If I remember correctly, I read some of Ford's comments and his positions on current events. I was impressed.

I too was impressed with Ford. He seems extremely well-spoken and balanced. A very principled man who puts a great face on our country...

Ford closes to within one point:
September 7, 2006
Harold Ford, Jr. The latest Rasmussen Reports election survey shows U.S. Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. closing in on Bob Corker in what has become one of the country’s marquee Senate races. Ford now trails Corker by a single point, 44% to 45% (see crosstabs). Last month’s poll showed him down by six; he trailed by 12 in July.

I realize it's fun to harp on the Dems, BUT it's not as if the republicans can brag about the team they are fielding. Jeez... You make it sound as if there is some sort of wide gap between the quality of polititians on the left and right.
Where it concerns the left, most of your feelings are opinions. Such as if that fella were elected he would suck. With the candidates on the right...we already know they suck.
