So do I.
Saddam is already preparing for the battle. He has allegedly released a lot of oil into the desert and is set to light it up. In many locations there are trenches filled with oil that are ready to be lit on fire. It's sort of like "If I can't stay in power and have this resource at MY disposal...then NO ONE will."
I just fear the use of biological weapons on our troops or the Iraqi people.
Hopefully the reports of Iraqi soldiers wanting to surrender are correct.

Reports are that Hussein has begun distributing chemical weapons to use on our troops. You know, those weapons he doesn't have? They won't be effective though.
We'll achieve air superiority very quickly. A large portion of the opposing military will surrender without firing a shot.
I have great faith in our military. We'll be victorious and we'll find so much more in the WOMD category than anyone can imagine. I also believe we'll find all sorts of proof as to just why countries like France are opposed to us finding out the truth.
Support our troops.

Iraqi Troops Reported Deserting
As many as 30,000 terrified Iraqi soldiers have already deserted, according to a report in Britain's Sun newspaper. Writing from the U.S. Command Center in Qatar, Sun correspondents George Pascoe-Watson and Simon Hughes reported that intelligence sources estimate that as many as 15 percent of Saddam's army have deserted before a single shot has been fired. A senior British war planner at US Central Command in Qatar told the Sun last night: "Iraqi soldiers are scared out of their wits at what they know is over their borders. They are not stupid. They know if they hang around there’s a good chance of things getting very nasty indeed." The mass desertions fueled the Sun reports by leaflet drops warning Saddam’s men to quit or face death, was uncovered by eavesdropping on military communications. The paper speculated that Saddam may not even be able to rely on his elite Republican Guard. Military planners believe the troops may turn on their generals rather than face the 250,000-strong Allied force.

Maybe I don't understand exactly how all this works but why didn't Bush simply go on TV and say "Time's up." ...at the same time troops were flying across the border and dropping in by parachute...or the first bombs were falling?
Why give them 48 hours to do things on their side? 48 hours is planty of time to detonate oil rigs, start shelling US positions in Kuwait...start suicide bombings.

First, to give Hussein one more chance. That also serves to show the world that we are giving him that one more chance.
Two, to give our troops just a little more time to get deployed and ready. There are still some forces en route even at this hour, most notably the 4th Infantry.
Three, to give the men of the Iraqi army a whole lot of time to think about things. Psychological warfare. Do they want to fight a truly hopeless battle for a many they really despise?
All good reasons, I think.
Hell, we should've done this months ago anyway.

I still remain anti-war. But I also know that war is not avoidable at all costs. Support our troops? Hell yeah. And if you dont, you're going to get a swift kick from this realistic pacifist.
Wayward, it sounds harsh, but I sometimes can't wait until Saddam unleashes the first chemical attack. (god forbid, if an when he does its effective. I think it won't be) becasue then the rest of the world can shut the fu*k up. To this point, we have all had rely on statements like "intelligence hs it" and "our channels report that" And the rest of the world can use the no smoking gun theory to push some bullshit filled theory about how inspections are working and diplomacy must continue. I hate the idea of going to war, but diplomact was a piece of crap with Saddam Hussein, the rest of the world let him slide for 12 years, and our only fault was not doing this exact thing 11 years ago. The timing brings our intent into question. And that sucks. ANd when I say that, I mean it looks convenient to the rest of the world that after Sept 11th we all of a sudden have interest in regime change in Iraq. Even if we're using Sept 11th to get Saddam out of power, its still the right thing to do.
So, we're going to war. Go in, kick ass and get it over with. And when we find all the stockpiles of WMD, I say we dispose of them in France.
Chirrac can kiss my infidel ass!

I think a lot of people hope in some perverse way (as do I) that they try to use chemical weapons. I think such an action will go a long way to swaying national and international public opinion.
And I know you question our timing and I can't dispute that. However, I wonder if he's in such a rush because he knows something and can't afford to wait. Something to think about.
