I remain strongly opposed to the use of force, but do understand completely what W was talking about last night. My biggest concern is for our troops. I really do not think this is going to be a walk in the park like 1991 was, or like it appeared to be.
I just hope to God that Bush is right in his accusations. I want to believe him, I really do.

Bob i thought you stated awhile back that you did believe in Colin Powell and that you didnt think that if evidence was fabricated he would take part in this? What changed yor mind?
Just curious why 90% of countries around the world and there leaders believe us yet you find it so hard to believe that Iraq has WOMD? Is it because Germany Fance and Russia dont? Why would you be more inclined to believe them and not what your own leaders are telling you?
Not trying to be a jerk just curious why you are so unsure of what the veidence shows?
Originally posted by AZCB34 Maybe I don't understand exactly how all this works but why didn't Bush simply go on TV and say "Time's up." ...at the same time troops were flying across the border and dropping in by parachute...or the first bombs were falling?
Why give them 48 hours to do things on their side? 48 hours is planty of time to detonate oil rigs, start shelling US positions in Kuwait...start suicide bombings.
I think because Bush really really doesn't want to go to war. Yet, he realizes that in order to protect our freedoms in everyday life SH needs to be removed from power. He is giving the option of either a peaceful removal or a forced removal. He really wanted the UN to step up and show it had some teeth to it's growl, but they didn't. Bush did everything possible to not make this a GB vs SH thing.
I'm not "unsure". I guess I should have phrased it differently. It is in the best interest of every person in this country that Bush is right in his accusations. If he is wrong, the backlash against us for being Americans will be horrible.
As far as being against the use of force Brian, what I meant was "in general". I am against the use of force in any situation. Please don't make me explain that all over again.

Man, we've been suffering from backlash for years. The world's governments hate us--that's just a fact that's been around for a long time.
But what we don't know is that the actual people of the world love us--I can't tell you what it's like in Europe where the people love Americans. Maybe it's because we like to spend our money over there or the fact that we defended their countries successfully...
But it would be incredibly naive to believe that Saddam Hussein had no trace of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons--it's just insane to believe that he is completely innocent in this...

Just heard a reporter ask Ari Fliescher about a French statement that came out this morning saying that if Iraq DOES use chemical or biological weapons against the US and it's allies in an attack, that it will COMPLETELY change the situation for France...meaning, they would lend us military support.
I just want to say that the French can take their crap army and shove it! If we start this without them, we'll finish it without them.
They don't want to believe that WOMD are there, but they come out and say that if they are used against us, they'll help.
I think tats been expected all along. France is trying to protect its 10s of billions of dollars of deals in currently has in place with Iraq. If they cant do that by blocking war resolutions in the UN, then they'll have to get in line and ally with us, because there will be a financial windfall in rebuiulding the Iraqi oil fields and for the petroleum companies who will bid for conracts to do the work. France cant miss out on that.
They want chemical weapons to be used, so they can about face without looking like a bunch of freaking idiots to rest of the world. I saw screw em. Let em sit there with their political d*cks in the wind. It'd be nice to put a little pressure on Frnce. Make em realize exactly where they are in the world's pecking order...
A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel
(Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and
told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and
were going to provoke a war in Iraq. He said if such a thing
happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.
I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to
France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the
Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface
[again] at some point in the near future anyway. I also told
him that is why France is a third-rate military power with a
socialist economy and a bunch of pansies for soldiers. I
additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and
action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's
support, if it ever came, was only for show anyway.
Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of
the burden, and provide 85% of the support, as evidenced by the
fact that this French officer was shopping in the American PX,
and not the other way around.
He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he
would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger
King and whip his ass in front of the entire Multinational
Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American
had more fight in him than the average Frenchman. He called me
a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
Dad, tell Mom I love her,
Your loving daughter,
Mary Beth Johnson Lt Col., USMC

Its a cool letter. But reads TOO well. Im going to look it up on snopes and check its validity. It reads more like one of those e-mail spma things intended to pull at heart strings. Cool story, just doesnt seem all that real on first read.
