U.S. Army War College Issues Criticism of War Effort
A report published by the Army War College calls the Bush administration's war on terrorism unfocused and says the invasion of Iraq was "a strategic error."

Why would they do that. The war college is supposed to come up with stuff like this. It is an exercise and designed to be free of partisan politics.
I heard this about a month ago and was not really suprised with the conclusion.

I'd like to see who wrote this. It looks to me like some guest professors wrote this. I'd be surprised if this is the oddicial view of the War College. I could be wrong though.

Maybe. The author would have to be military (commissioned officer) and the language considered contemptuous. If it meets those criteria he/she would be in violation of Article 88.
Article 88 - Contempt towards officials
“Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”
Explanation. The official or legislature against whom the words are used must be occupying one of the offices or be one of the legislatures named in Article 88 at the time of the offense. Neither “Congress” nor “legislature” includes its members individually. “Governor” does not include “lieutenant governor.” It is immaterial whether the words are used against the official in an official or private capacity. If not personally contemptuous, ad-verse criticism of one of the officials or legislatures named in the article in the course of a political discussion, even though emphatically expressed, may not be charged as a violation of the article.
Similarly, expressions of opinion made in a purely private conversation should not rdinarily be charged. Giving broad circulation to a written publication containing contemptuous words of the kind made punishable by this article, or the utterance of contemptuous words of this kind in the presence of military subordinates, aggravates the offense. The truth or falsity of the statements is immaterial.
For what it's worth.

According to the story:
Record is a visiting professor at the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. The paper was published last month by the Army War College's Strategic Studies Institute.
I don't know, however, if he is, in fact, in the currently in the military or not
The war college is about to close down so who cares lol.
How do I know? It was my last duty station and I line 2 miles from it. Maybe 2% of the officers that go through there could actually lead a battle or command effectively.

I take offense to that--my father is a graduate of the War College.

Why would you take offense? Do you feel he isnt part of the 2%?
I was an MP there and had over 200+ face to face discussions and talks with the col's/majors there and most got there because they knew someone and never had to serve in a high risk area.
I hated that duty station even the NCO's were guys that never had any real world army experience. I was in every hot zone from 1993 to 1999.

Actually, my father was a little different, his entire education there was overseas, so he was never actually AT the college for any specific length of time.
He was 2nd in command in Rotterdam during the first Gulf War (Rotterdam for those who don't know was where all our equipment from Europe began its sea journey to the Middle East) and he ended up being the 2nd in command of the entire Army Reserves in Washington DC.
So I guess he WOULD be part of that 2%.
Not to mention he was an artillery officer in Vietnam. But that was before he went to the College.
