This is why religion and government should not mix
Alabama has a religous wacko as its Supreme Court Justice, who is defying all orders to remove a massive Ten Commandments display he installed in the courthouse. Some of this guys comments are scary. He is clearly trying to impose his religion on the rest of the state.

Sickening.
If I were ever elected, I would put a monument of the Communists Manifesto and Karl Marx in public display.

I've been following this story probably a lot more closely than you have, and I think he's actually right as the Alabama Constution is written. I think he IS following the constitution of Alabama and it is the anti-religious wackos who are going overboard and doing the imposing.
Why is a marble tablet of the 10 Comandments such a threat to you, DBack? How is a piece of rock, a list of laws in a courthouse for heaven's sake, IMPOSING religion on the 'rest of the state'? Does it have some special powers that if you get too close to it it converts you??

Please tell me what is sickening about saying that adultery and stealing and murder is wrong?
Seems to me that Alabama, others states and the U.S. government has laws pretty much like the Commandments. Should we say murder is okay now because a religious person once said it was wrong?? Can't have him imposing his evil religion on us!

I just hope he doesn't back down. He said on Fox that he will fight with his life, and I hope he does. Somebody needs to take a stand. Maybe this will be the guy who will defeat ACLU.
Stefan
P.S. I think he deserves to be the next United States Supreme Court Justice.

Alabama is a state of the United States. The US Constitution takes precedent over Alabama's. IF there is something in the Alabama Constitution that would allow it, that part of the Alabama Constitution is unconstitutional.
How does it impose religion on the state? By giving the impression that Judeo-Christian law is the law of the land, and that other religions/atheists are not welcome. The United States was founded on religous freedom and openness, and the position of NO STATE RELIGION. This clearly violates that principle.

He will lose - he is the modern day George Wallace, who tried to defend segregation.
And I can think of about 274 million people more qualified to be US Supreme Court Justices.

He might lose, but at least he sent a message. Once Scalia and Thomas get reinforcement on the Supreme Court, things will change. This man is a perfect Candidate for the next Supreme Court Justice. He had sworn to uphold the Constitution, and he is doing in in spite of all the pressure.

He is defying a direct order from a court - he is DISOBEYING THE LAW. HE should be impeached, and thrown in jail for contempt of court.

Exactly, but don't tell the Christian fundamentalist that.
They want an American Christian version of Iran.

But laws and limits not SPECIFICALLY spelled out by the U.S. Constitution are left to the states. Right now the Alabama Constitution says public official should recognize a higher power. As an administrator of law, this man obviously believes a higher power's set of laws is a guideline. Again I ask, how is the in opposition to the U.S. Constitution?

Well then the Supreme Court will probably have to strike down most of the State Constituions and take down the mural of the 10 Commandments in their own courtroom. Shall we take all references to God off all the coinage too?
DBack, you're making yourself and this 'cause' incredibly radical and obsessive.

Other than for people WANTING to be offended by it, how does it give this 'impression'. And how does a hunk of rock with some do-not's indicate that other religions and athiests are not welcome?
Tell me something: If athiests don't believe in God and therefore the 10 Commandments, does that mean they feel they can go ahead and murder someone and not be punished for it?

How? Where does it say that everyone must be Baptist or Catholic or even Christian??

That's funny. A liberal wanting someone impeached or thrown in jail for disobeying the law.
As an elected official the people of Alabama have recourse. Maybe you should let them handle it.

Please Krang, please define Christain Fundamentalist. Then, please give the religious tenets and offenses of Iran. Finally, please show how they want an American Christain version of Iran.
Your hysterics are disturbing.
