I'm not particularly fond of McCain, but I will trust that his 'ravings' are sincere. Are my anti-alcohol ravings hollow because my husband is an alcoholic? Your argument doesn't make much sense to me.

"Sincere" is not a word I would use to describe McCain. He's been all over the aisle, back and forth, and...... OOPS! Might he be a "flip-flopper???"

I meant his ravings on this ONE particular subject...not everything else.
c) what does what they're called have to do with anything?
a. I have heard governor's wives called first ladies. Mayor's wives also. We don't know about President's husbands.
b. Yes there are and their husbands are generally fair game.
c. Well, I figure if they are put on a pedestal with a public profile, complete with all the trappings of royalty, then maybe they are fair game for criticism when they don't live up to it. No free passes. Fair? Probably not, but it comes with the territory.
I don't care if Betty Ford and Ms. McCain use drugs. Maggie Trudeau smoked pot and snorted coke. I thought she was a hoot. Diane did some stuff and rolled with some party people.
What I find hypocritical is their political spouses, if they discounted this behavior while holding the subjects to a different standard. Ever hear about the tales of Columba Bush?

McCain must be the most politically stupid person in the world. He had the middle of all America wrapped around his finger, including me. He had respect, he had clout, he had credibility. Then he ties himself to the current administration like a calf suckling on his mom's teet and subsequently his popularity instantly ties in with the popularity of this war. With that said, if this war turns around in reality and popularity, then so will McCain's popularity....
It's a problem of the primary process. People that could win with middle/moderate/centrist positions don't get elected by their primaries who want people who lean right or left. So they either stick by their guns and don't get nominated, or sell out and get the nomination, then try to move center again to get mainstream voters. Flawed system.
