There Really Is No Down Side To Faith

If there is a God and you believe in him, you will be rewarded.. If there isnt, whats the worst you did wrong? Try and do good? If not, your dead just the same as the folks who dint believe..

And if their is a God and you dont believe in him, what happens to you?

Does anyone have a inside track to the universe? Nope, ythey dont.. Itsd all up in the air..

Well you gotta ask yourself deep down within.. Are you a tirant? Or are you a good natured person? See, I believe every human has good intentions.. Now, how they expresses them is a totally different manner.. And when people succumb to evil, well, life just isnt worth living..

Someone can believe in evolution, and thats great.. Although I just recently heard that could be dispelled.. I dunno.. Im not a know it all.. But look to the stars.. How far can you see? And what you cant see, can your brain wrap around that and compute it?

I walk down this long hall just to get to the stairs to get go upstairs at my job.. The hall is all white, it takes about 5 minutes to walk it.. then when I get up stairs it takes another 5 minutes to get to my office door.. Seeing the drones and all the lifeless people on each floor programmed to make that walk makes me think people are dead and/or have just given up.. No one truely knows.. People just give up, and thats sad.. No one knows anything..

I quoted you, bro. Those were your words.

And if Nidan had read them, he would have known the answer to his own question.

If faith only matters when you're dead, then sure -- what's the downside of ANYTHING when you're dead ?(other than being dead. Or, as Donald suggested, if there is a 'jealous' or 'judgmental' God and you picked wrong.)

There are plenty of downsides, as well as upsides, to faith when you're alive.

How about some christians and their message of hate towards gays? Or abortion doctors getting killed by "Gods soldiers"

You ask what's the worst thing that can happen by having faith? Having it become fanaticism.

Also - there are many people that believe silly things like the Earth is 6,000 yrs old.
Too much faith leads to ignorance - look at the Dark Ages - Europe FORGOT how to make concrete, sewage systems, bathing...

Well sometimes there's a downside, flying planes into buildings, fighting wars, mass killings.

Heck even getting fed to lions.

If those aren't downsides, I'd hate to see what one looked like.

All of you that are finding downsides, you are finding them with religion not God... There are those that have a relationship with God outside of religion.

Gee mentioned nothing about religion, only God...

He mentioned faith which is by definition being sure about something that can't be argued with or disproven.

This leads some to run around with their head impacted into their anal cavity and the problem is when they insist everyone else see it THEIR way.

Someone with strong enough faith sometimes gets the bright idea that if those not buying in would just die that they'd be ok with that.

God, I have no problem with God myself, we're buds.

I have two very distinct problems with faith outside of fanatics.

The idea of Gods will. That so many people brush off personal responsibility and chalk up the effects of their decisions and choices as outside their control.

The other is the topic of this thread. That it's a safe bet, what does it hurt. It's a lottery, believe and you might find yourself in heaven... don't and you'll surely go to hell. If you don't play.. you can't win. With a choice like that of course the majority are going to buy a ticket. In every mass I've attended the first thing I noticed were all the seniors. With the end getting near there are an aweful lot of folks feeling the need to jump on board. I've come to believe that any God that expects and rewards servitude rather than casting his judgement on how you lived your life is not the God for me. But.. I've never been a fan of obedience so no surprise there.
