Well, here we go, the announcement of "threats" againt our national security are now starting to be released, this one regarding attacks football stadiums. I fully expect that these type of warnings will continue through election day.
Also interesting that this is announced the same day that court martial charges will be filed against 8 US soldiers for allegedly brutally rapeing and killing a 14 year old Iraqui girl, buring her body and home to hide the crime, and killing her family. The "war on terror" is always a good way to distract us from the real news. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2582520

A security warning where they say there is no credible threat and they are only doing it for public information is a scare tactic? Do you sleep with the lights on?
Yeah he is. While I have no doubt that both sides will be up to dirty politics around the election, they wouldn't do this in order to get people on thier side and scared. If they were going to do that they would EMPHASIZE the ever living hell out of it and make it seem like the apocalypse is upon us.
Saying "everything is fine" in a scare tactic would be possibly the dumbest thing to ever occur. Satan ... er Rove is smart and manipulative not dumb and thats why those that aren't on his side don't like him

Ok then it's mighty peculiar how the warning level gets raised just around each election cycle over the last few years.
Not disagreeing with that (see that would be a scare tactic that works). The example of the stadiums threatened about a possible attack and them downplaying is not a scare tactic.
That would not help them in the election whatsoever. Come on Nidan I know you're smarter then that

Actually, the cynicism of this thread is partially based upon another thread we had here a while ago. It contained a CNBC video that went through many examples of the "terror level" being raised to hide other bad news and it seemed to keep the public fearful. I don't remember the title of the thread, but maybe someone can link it.
DHS is reporting suff they found in the internet so they can tell us there is nothing to it?
Most people will only read 'terrorist threat' and have that impression. It is designed to make people think that the govt. is protecting them (from threats that have no substance).

swd - Are you a conservative libertarian? As far as the political compass test goes, I'm a liberal libertarian. The reason I ask is that I agree with you half the time, but I think we differ simply on the conservative vs. liberal part of things....
