oderint dum metuant (Latin for 'let them hate, so long as they fear').
Well, in truth I'm actually not a total hawk, but I'm not a dove either -- I'm more like an angry pigeon flying over the political arena after a really big meal. -Abba Gav
Some thinktanker yesterday was saying there's no need for a REAL paper-trail, because by storing the vote data electronically, we can 'recreate' a paper trail anytime. The person who was demanding 'hard-copy' ballots was left almost speechless at that, but pointed out "If you can change the electronic vote then the 'recreated' paper vote will reflect the tampered vote! Duh!"

I harped on this around the election and basically got yawned at, I think you can see where Diebold being a giant Bush Co backer presents a problem and also answers why this isn't a bigger story.
People are so computer dumb they probably think this is an improvement, this just makes stealing an election go from gigantic coordinated effort down to two people or less.
People told Diebold this was possible before the election, they flatly denied it, and claimed it was impossible, obviously it's not.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
I think the people and media are afraid of revisiting the 2004 election, so let's not do that.
I'll just ask the "conservatives" or anyone on this board, should changes be made for FUTURE elections in our reliance on these voting machines?
It was not my intention to revisit any election with this infomation. I posted it as a heads up to those who claimed this a non issue when brought up in the past. I'm curious to hear from them now.

OK, I got a question. Why would the people handling the voting machines change the memory cards from one machine to another? That's the only way the virus could spread as these machines aren't hooked together. The memory cards might be switched in between elections, but if that is done, the malicious software is no longer pertinent.
It seems to me that each machine would have to be tampered with and that's not a very likely scenario.
No, this was an article they just posted on that website.... I noticed Klod posts a lot of stuff off of there. The inner-net is a small place
I've never been to the site you suggest.
I get notices from a group through the Univeristy C.S. department.
What else (besides this thread) have I posted from that site? I rarely post anything from anywhere.
