The Christine O'Donnell Thread

This gal is so entertaining, she clearly needs her own thread. First of all, kudos on her big win last night in the GOP Senate primary in Delaware.

Now for the fun stuff.

She is on record as being anti-condom, http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0910/42288.html

...and anti-masturbation. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2...in-the-90s.php This has got to be a first for a politician.

Then we get to the financial stuff, like paying her mom $3,500 with campaign funds for being a "consultant", and renting from her campaign, etc. http://m.dailykos.com/stories/2010/9/16/902566/-.html

And being liened by the IRS for $11K (turned out to be a mistake), sued 5 times by her Alma Matter for not paying her tuition, and sued by her mortgage company, etc. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/check...1646637&page=2

Let's at least say this. This woman has some incredible guts to be running for National office with all this going on. I am sure there is more to come.

The condom and masturbation issues aside - she sorta sounds like the balance of our country...

On the financial woes, perhaps. But I don't think the balance of our country would give their moms $3,500 of campaign donations and engage in some of this other questionable stuff.

Yeah the $3500 is terrible compared to the above.

I think she's a dreadful candidate but neither mainstream party has even half a leg to stand on when talking about ethics, that's a farce to even go there.

Little old Delaware is going to be one of the most interesting, compelling elections in decades... It will be a race between two radical elements from both ends of the political spectrum. Coons has apparently referred to himself as a "Marxist" and all reports are that you can't be any further left than he is. Meanwhile, O'Donnell is truly his polar opposite.

Very, very intriguing...

Apparently, Coons was being facetious and self-deprecating when he wrote a paper called "The Making of a Bearded Marxist", or something like that. He was a Republican and he evolved to Liberal politics and his Republican friends derided him like that. It was a college paper, but Beck and the Rush-Levin-Hannity circle jerk will ride with this....

Party officials said Tuesday it was unlikely they would invest much in the state, with more promising races in other states.

A poll released Wednesday showed O'Donnell had considerable ground to make up as the general election phase of the campaign began. Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-affiliated firm, showed Coons leading O'Donnell 50% to 34%. Had Rep. Mike Castle been the GOP nominee, he would have led Coons 45% to 35%.

Fifty percent of respondents view O'Donnell unfavorably, and 49% said she was unfit to hold public office.

I don't know about party officials, but she raised $1 million in donations yesterday.

Oh I think she could easily win and that's not a good thing IMO.

In a rush to get anyone but X in there people are dropping their standards a lot IMO.

Really I don't know enough to judge her and I'm not saying any one thing about her bothers me because again I don't know her well enough but I think there is a danger that people will get something other than they thought they were getting, JMO..

Other than experiencing "real life" in a manner millions of other Americans have, she literally has no record whatsoever to stand on. Nothing.
It would be one of the most startling suprises in the history of politics if she were to go on and win this seat.
Coons is someone who has received a rare 100% approval rating from NARAL and was referred to by Harry Reid as "my pet"...

Amazingly, I think O'Donnell has a legit shot in this race... stunning really...

Against abortions even in cases of rape and incest.

Wants creationism taught in schools, rejets Darwin's theory of evolution.

O'Donnell opposes embryonic stem cell research[67]and research into cloning of primates, declaring that "American scientific companies are cross-breeding humans and animals and coming up with mice with fully functioning human brains."[27

I know... amazing... and yet, she soundly defeated one of the most popular Delaware politicians in that states' history. Not sure if that's an indictment on the people of DE or, a ripple that is about to spread throughout the entire country...

O'Donnell is what I refer to as a BDE - Brain Dead Evangelical. I'd like to say they're only dead from the neck up, but given her precarious positions on sex ...

I knew lots of these in college and I was nearly one myself. There was an alarming lack of critical thinking in our group. But most of us grew up, tempered our politics, and became a slight hair more worldly in our paradigms. O'Donnell sounds like she's been living in a bubble since college.
